Well Derek was acting like a sad puppy with no bike so I went and grabbed my KX250 and CR250r and we went for a rip out on the west side of the lake.

About a year ago I fell in love with a little CR125r in Santa Clara, but it didn't have enough wopah, this CR250r does and if it had a wider spread or a 6th gear this is what I'd keep and race. It's that good.

Other than the wrist-breaking twitch bars, I loved that bike. Plus it comes with the added thrill of a slip-n-slide!

So, who's down to plan a dual sport camping trip starting in St. George and headed into the desert? Maybe towards Caliente? Griffiths showed me a route that heads there all on dirt and will take the better part of just one day.

Me and Sean went for a last minute trip up windsurfer yesterday.
Might be the last time we can ride those mountains this year.

I am almost ready for the Rhino Rally. New top end 2 weeks ago, put some hours on the piston and then yesterday Harrison and I changed the oil in our bikes, topped off the coolant and cleaned the air filters. Did a few other minor things but all i have left is replacing my rear tire.

I have a hybrid 120/100x18 on it now, 1/2 thread life left that i am trying to decide if I should run that or put on a new Battlecross X30 i have. The tire foot print is much bigger on the 120 vs the 110 battlecross but it’s half worn. Any thoughts? Would the extra tire on the ground make up for the worn tread? I will probably swap it out anyway and just bring my extra rims. 2 years ago I ran a trials front tire with a MotoZ Mountain Hybrid and that combo rocked.

I’m glad you brought this up, because I’ve been meaning to ask as well.

I’ve been running a Dunlop AT81 for a long time now. I really like its traction, but it lacks lateral stability. If the knobbies has a staggered pattern I bet this tire would totally rock.

What tires would you suggest for St. George type of riding?

My opinion is run whatever tire will benefit you in the terrain you are least comfortable in.

I.e. sand, rock, high speed etc.

Excellent advise! My weak spot is definitely sandy ruts.

Hands down the best tire I have ever run that works in all terrain and has good traction throughout its long life is a Kenda Parker DT

I’ve never ran a Kenda tire on a dirt bike. Good to know. Thanks!

Did you decide which tire your going to use?

The Parker DT is the only tire we run in the desert on any of our bikes. I run it in the intermediate terrain direction. Of course we have a sponsorship but even without it I am impressed with the traction and durability. I am getting ready to put an order in if you want to try one.
