National Public Lands Day at 5 Mile Pass cleanup by Rocky Mountain Extreme!

Date: Saturday, Sept. 29th, 2018

Meeting Location: Main parking area of 5 Mile Pass, North of the road. Dumpster will be close to the Pit Toilet in the Main Parking area. ( No dumpster this year, thanks to the BLM dropping the ball ).

Starting Time: 9 AM

Cleanup time frame: Should be done by 2 - 3 PM.

The BLM will provide us with a large dumpster, we will need to locate and cleanup trash in the area. RME will provide the garbage bags.

We need 30+ people ready to pick up trash. Please wear pants, boots and bring some work gloves! I'd also recommend packing a lunch, snacks & water/drinks. Let's plan to break for lunch, then we can run Rattlesnake and Constrictor (for those willing) and pick up trash on those trails.

We need volunteers to get this done!! Come join us, give back a few hours of your time & help make the areas we all love better for everyone to enjoy! Garbage Bags will be supplied by RME.

There will be a sign up sheet at the start of the day, PLEASE get your name on the list so we can document all the hours we've worked with the BLM.

NPLD is 9/29 fwiw. Gambler 500 is also 9/22.

Update: Odd, some show 9/22 (NEEF & NPS), FS says "Though September 30th is the official National Public Lands Day" and we are planning 9/29 up AFC with the FS.

Ahh, that's crazy! Yeah, NEEF says 9/22! I'll change the date to match, to the 29th.

NPLD is a week away! Who plans to be out at 5 Mile Pass on Saturday? Trying to get an idea for how many people we'll have.

Unfortunately the BLM SLC office dropped the ball and didn't get us a dumpster this year, despite planning in advance on our end. I'm not really happy about it, that means that we will have to haul out what we pick up. I don't expect that we're going to pick up a ton of trash like we have in the past, it would be nice if each vehicle/family could fill one trash bag.

If anyone has a dump trailer and is willing to bring it and then make a dump run, RME will cover the costs of getting into the dump.

Since we won't be picking up that much trash, I'm going to propose that we still meet at 9 AM, work until about 11 AM and then head over to Rattlesnake and Constrictor picking up trash and running the trails.

I'm going to haul my '48 Willys up for the cleanup and trail run.... hope to see many RME'ers out there!

I plan on being there with my family. I can find out about a trailer. My usual 3.5x5 trailer is in ID with my sister.

I can bring a dump trailer. I won’t be able to wheel afterwards. I can haul the trash from the pick up time, can everyone haul their own trash out from the trail run?

I have been asked to take the scouts on a campout. The place I wanted to take them is closed due to fires so I am trying to convince them to go out to 5 mile so I can take care of two things at once.

That would be great, thanks for the offer Brian! I think if you bring the dump trailer, we will find/make room for the trash bags from the trail run. If I have to, I can toss them in the back of my truck.

If you want to (and you have a strong back) you can ride in the Willys with me. I'll be solo more than likely and don't plan to take it up Constrictor.

If you can make that work Dave, it would be fun! If not, no worries.

My kids just got some new dirt bikes, looks like we are going to stay and ride them in the area. We may just stay in the main parking.. so I may be there long enough to haul everything out.

Also, there is a dump right in the middle of 5 mile pass. Maybe we can reach out to them and see if they will be open, and willing to take our trash as their part for our efforts..
