"It just needs a little work" - That is what I keep telling my wife... and she's tired of hearing it. This poor girl needs to be driven, but with the kids being older and us being busier we just don't take it out like we used to. I have been asked to get it out of the driveway. I am getting ready to clean out the inside, wash it, and put it on KSL. I'll list it for 3k on KSL, but I thought I'd throw it on here in case any of the RME crew are interested.

It has a 'strong' 3.0 that just won't die. Probably 180ish thousand miles. Stock 4.56 gears, with a set of 5.29 Yukons in a box on the front seat. Some old, hard Goodyear MTR Kevlar 35" tires. TrailGear SAS kit in the front using the 3" HD springs(more on this later), and 2" Cruiser 80 Rear coils (OME I think) from Cruiser Outfitters. John Wood Front driveshaft. Powertrax LockRite Auto locker in the rear. Fresh fuel pump and filter, Oil/filter change, air filter change, brake fluid change.

There are so many 'little' things that should be done to make it 'streetable' again. It runs and drives, but hasn't been registered in 9 years. You could half-@$$ it, and put it on a trailer and go to Moab today and have fun, but to make it enjoyable, you need to do some of the following.

-Rear tailgate window glass brackets need to be replaced. Glass sits ALMOST closed now, but will not effectively roll down or up.
-Front HD leaf needs to come out. Sits a little too tall to be street legal. ( I would put it on 31's to pass it back when we did safety inspections).
-Front shackle bushings are starting to get loose. Should be replaced to tighten it up.
-Front brake line brackets need to be welded in place.
-5.29's should be installed, or tires downsized. Never had a problem off-road, but the 35's on the freeway REALLY suck the power.
-Rear pumpkin seal has a slow drip/leak.
-Fuel quantity sender has been intermittent. I replaced the fuel pump last month, but all that time with no fuel has affected the float.
-Automatic Stereo antenna hasn't worked since I laid it on it's side in Moab.
-4WD dash light does not work.
-Several interior panels removed in the cargo
-Windshield wipers need replaced.
-Driver door mirror not fully attached and should be replaced. (It is secure, but crooked).
-Probably should change the Coolant, Power steering, and T-case fluids. It's been a while.

I'll try to add some old pictures of the glory days, some of which have the smaller tires on. I don't have any current pictures, but you can just imagine it 2013-01-25_12-03-46_750.jpg20140123_152812.jpg20140123_162244.jpgIMAG0511.jpgIMG_6986.jpgP1170990.jpegPhone 134.jpgPhone 1276.jpgPhone 1345.jpgPhone 1346.jpgsitting lonely in the driveway. UPDATE:

This has been a work in progress for my Son and I. It has been his daily driver since shortly after he got it. (luckily he's 21 and not too picky) After doing quite a bit of work to it and after being prodded by my Brother in Law we packed up and went to Moab.

In true Moab fashion he was wrenching on it until the morning we left. (Thanks SLC97SR5 for helping us locate some of the right parts) Brigham installed some TRE's and welded up a shock mount.

We loaded it up, met the others who were renting a Rubicon in Moab and headed out. The trip down was pretty smooth. It always seems like a really long pull for me. I get a little stir crazy after Price.

I was surprised how built up it was since my last visit about 7-8 years ago. I am kind of sad, I see it becoming a Jackson Hole or Sun Valley in the coming years. I miss the old laid back days of a crappy cabin at Slick Rock Campground cooking dogs on a fire.

My BIL picked up his Jeep and was warned that Top of the World had been really dug out over Easter and was discouraged from hitting it. So we stated on Dome Plateau. I have never wheeled any of the easy to moderate trails before and this one although pretty was a pretty boring trip.

It was good to get our feet under us, since it was the first time with the Runner and for my BIL. The fisherman in me wants to know why you have to keep all the suckers in the river and kill all of the real sport fish in the Colorado River in that area? I get that it's all about the native fish but who the heck wants to fish for suckers and not Pike? I digress......... Next we headed back to town and went to Hell's Revenge. That first fin at the entrance scared my Son in the 4 Runner and really freaked out my BIL and his kids. It was funny to see and hear their reactions.

We did really well on the trail and only had one issue. The JL had an overheated power steering pump and until it cooled off it was useless. We waited that out and checked the fluid, then carried on. No other issues with it after that. The trial was not very busy with crawlers.

Having not been there in 7-8 years, I was sadly amazed at the amount of SXS on the trail. Like 20 to 1. I'm sure they are fun and obviously everyone is renting them down there but the drivers of them lived up to the reputation. They were impatient and overall annoying to me.

There was a really cool Explorer built really well that gave us a show at Hells Gate and Escalator. I was glad someone was there to show the new folks in the group how those obstacles are. There was one really built single seat buggy there too and he was fun to watch in the hot tubs.

We finished the trail right before dark and helped a family in a nearly stock 4 Runner (elocker in rear) with some spotting and had an overall great time on that trail. We were pretty beat after 90 degree heat and sun so we had dinner and hit the sack.

Sunrise found us scabbing parts from Oreily's and the place next door to fix an exhaust hanger that shook loose. Then we headed out to Metal Masher and it was just like I remember. I really enjoyed this. It was a good mix for the Runner with only a rear locker. The Rubicon did very well on it and we made a few good climbs and ledges. It was Saturday and I thought it would be crowded but again, only other side by sides. We only saw one other crawler on the entire trail and probably 15-20 SXS's. I was sad we couldn't watch anyone do Rockchucker or Widowmaker but it was a nice fun trail. We took our time and finished that trail mid afternoon. By the time we got back to town, washed and gassed up the rental it was time to turn it in.

We spent the evening eating great Mexican food, overpaying for hat's and hoodies and generally having a great time. The next morning we headed out about 8:30am and on the way met up with Hicky to finish a transaction (thanks for making that an easy exchange) and made it home about 6pm that evening. The Dmax pulled awesome and it was a fun trip overall. The kids couldn't quit talking about it and all the funny experiences we had. Good times.

A few after trip thoughts:

The JL's are really amazing in nearly stock form with the Rubicon package. I was impressed.

It's fun to get back to crawling and help other's learn about it too. My kids did it when they were young but having them in the drivers seat the entire time was a fun experience.

I love a clean built crawler. I was envious of many rigs in town.

I missed the tougher trails but found enjoyment with the moderate stuff given the rigs we had.

Of course we have a list of upgrades we want on the Runner now. My son now sees that without traction all the other improvements mean nothing. Lockers are key. So a front selectable will be added before our next trip down there. (are the Toyota elockers interchangeable front and rear)

SXS's will be the downfall of the trails down there if they don't stop going off trail everywhere. It was disappointing to see.

As always, it was good to be home.

So, is this for sale? Or turned build thread?:p

Looks like a great rig, and been a lot of fun!
Touché' - It's more like a build, trip report and for the right price everything is for sale. I thought it might be nice to know where it all stated from. We have regeared, worked on the suspension, done a hundred little things, scabbed an exhaust together, and had a pretty good time in the process.
