Today is the day.. oye not looking forward to this repair. I’ll take you guys along for the ride and maybe I’ll be able to share some tips and such for those that might (hopefully not) have this happen.

I decided to leave the injectors alone at this point in time. Might be a gamble given they’re probably stock and I’m at 240k miles. Hope I don’t regret it.

I do have new orings for them though. The ones that were in it looked really crusty!

After going back and forth over it my brother and I decided it’ll be best to rent the RiffRaff cup install tool. This tool bolts to the head and presses the cup in. The tool I have now you have to use a hammer to drive the cups in. Thinking the press tool will be much better as you’ll know for sure when the cup is seated whereas with the hammer it would be hard to know for sure and there’s zero room to swing a hammer on the cylinders next to the heater box. Hopefully it’ll arrive by next weekend!

So I’m kinda thinking I might try and sell the ol’ girl once I get it back together and hopefully running sweet.

1. Because I change vehicles more than I change my skivvies. 2. Because truck prices (especially these) are through the roof right now!! 3. Because I’ve always been a Cummins guy. 4. Because I really want an automatic (too old to shift these days). 5. Because I’m kinda not a fan of all the oem parts Ford is discontinuing for these old trucks and you HAVE to use oem parts or they don’t run. 6. Because I’m a Cummins fan…

I wonder if I could find a 94-97 twelve valve for under 80k? They steer like garbage the dashes crack bad, no rear doors and they steer like garbage… also they’re beat and I mean BEAT in my price range. Maybe an 03-06? Then I have to worry about ball joints every year… I won’t do another vp44 year truck because my last one was a total nightmare. Maybe a 6.7 Ford—which is more than I’m going to spend I’ll be honest.

Talk me out of it. Please. Tinky will be great once it’s fixed right? 🥺

You're making this truck reliable. The 7.3's will run a long time with proper maintenance. I'm not having any trouble finding quality parts, plus there are millions of them still on the road. The market is definitely getting older, but there are a lot of these trucks out there. The chassis and interiors can be swapped out from yours up to something like a '15 model year. A cummins will make more HP, but I've not had a need for more than what my truck has....

So true I hope this fixes it for good. The truck runs fantastic and I love the power even being stock aside from the 4” exhaust and intake. I do like the Ford platform more than the Dodge too. Ugh. I’ll see what happens I’m just a little apprehensive when it comes to this repair. Taking my time and doing it right hopefully it is a solid fix 😎

I did the injector o-rings on my 7.3 in 2015. Purging the air from the oil lines killed my batteries (they were old). After all the air was out of the oil driving the injectors it ran great

Yeah kinda worried about that. My batteries are in great shape but I imagine it’ll take some time to purge the air being open for a week or two…

I think an'05-newer Stuper Duty with a chunked 6.0 or 6.4L would make an EXCELLENT platform for a Fummins. Bonus points if it's a manual trans.

(I'm still happy with my gasser despite the fuel mileage)
Wouldn’t that be sweet?! My brother just sold a vp44 5.9 engine with low miles I kept telling him to convert it to common rail and put it in something cool.

I had to laugh at you comment " I'm a dodge guy" no your not no one is, they are all Cummins guys. The dodge part is what keeps me running Ford's. I have been working on a guy at works dodge, every time I get under that truck and look at the scramble of a mess that is the dodge design I just say to myself it's a dodge thing , and I don't understand.

Got my sweet rental tool ($500 deposit! 😳) that should make quick work of these cups. Gonna shoot for Saturday hopefully my help shows up.

Just gotta make sure the bores are spotless and clean. Gonna need a lot of patience and more Hamm’s.
