Jeep guys: boatsides or tubes for your rocksliders?

Looking over the options for rocker protection... kind of like the idea of tube for the added utility of being able to step up into the Jeep, but kind of digging the idea of at least 8" more clearance of boatsides.
Whaddya like on YOUR rig?

I'm going thru the same debate myself for the TJ, been looking hard at Dave's Customs Unlimited Boatsides because they're straight forward and affordable, but I don't know that their stretched boatsides will work for me and they length I'm running.

They'd make quite a difference if you're planning to run gnarly, boulder-filled trails. I did standard BTF rock sliders on my old TJ and they were hit often. Boatsides would have been nice.

Whatever I do, I'll probably add a tube up high and tight to use as a step.

I am kind of thinking that's the way I'll go as well. Dave's boatsides look pretty good, price is right, so it's either them or the Motobilt versions I think.

I will say that I like the way the Motobilt versions tie in to more body mounts. That might be worth it to me. Parts shopping is fun! weeeeee hahahha

If I were building another Jeep-based crawler, I’d do boatsides.

I’ve tried to buy something from Daves 2-3 times now. I never could get a call back or an email response to my questions about their products, inventory, etc. I’ve completely written them off from my business.

That sucks to hear, but good to know.
Motobilt returns my calls and emails, so....

If someone is anti-boatside, I just figure they’re too lazy or don’t have the skill to properly execute it. Come at me bros! 😂
or, perhaps they're not building a dedicated crawler but still want some decent protection. ;)

I'll admit, I don't have the skills to do boatsides, but I'm also a guy who is very much a fan of the factory body with no or extremely limited modifications to the sheet metal.

Bro, you came at me. 😳😂

So, if I told you to tow the ‘ol girl out here to my shop to slam out some boatsides before hitting Moab or SH you’d say nah, I’m good… 🤠
