Oh yes! I can't wait! I just ordered some new jigs for this year, speaking of, what is everyone's favorite lure or tackle for ice fishing?

The only artificial one I've had much success with is a Rapala ice jig. I seem to catch the most fish on earth worms or meal worms, sometimes power bait works but it's hit and miss.

I picked up a drill adapter for my auger this year so hoping things start to freeze up.

Ice shelters are a must, and make it so much more enjoyable.

That's a matter of opinion  .

...if the boat isn’t coming, not exactly easy with ice...

I haven't been ice fishing for a good 20 years, at least, myself. Me and my buddies were doing it back when the only lakes around here it was legal to do were the Gorge and Starvation. When Utah first went to year round fishing and it was legal to ice fish pretty much anywhere, we had a lot of lakes pretty much all to ourselves there for a few years. Tore the crap out of them. Good, good times.

I toy with the idea of breaking out all the old gear and giving it another go. But I have too many hobbies and not enough time. Whenever I "could" go ice fishing, I decide to go do something else.

I’m a tube jig guy, year round. The size and color changes but 2.5-4” white seems to by my most used tool. Always tip with worm or shrimp but really prefer frozen chub meat.

Looking for an apprentice ice fisher? :D

I’ve not been ice fishing in 3 decades. My dad has a nice little fishing boat and pretty much has no interest in fishing if the boat isn’t coming, not exactly easy with ice. I’d love to get out and give it a modern try.

For sure! It’s a great time and things have definitely come a long ways in the last several years 😎

My brother’s ice fishing-specific fish finder is crazy. You can see your jig dropping and watch fish come off the bottom up to it. He seriously probably catches 70% of his fish that way, especially perch

For sure the new flashers are awesome. I just got a new one for Christmas that I can’t wait to try out. I think they’re mandatory for catching Kokanee.

Last year my friend brought along an underwater camera it was so cool to see the fish come in.

We had an underwater camera 20 years ago. And a good sonar 35 years ago.

Can't imagine how much better smaller and lighter that stuff is now. Hell, I hauled a big old lawn tractor battery just to power the sonar! But I was watching fish hit my bait even way back then. That big black box in the pics above is my Lowrance X3. That thing cost me a small fortune in 1984.

I like being able to fish in a t-shirt. Wind sucks to fish in. Shelters are also cool because you can look down and see the fish hit your lure. We usually fish some holes out in the open on the way back to the car. Now for winter river fishing, I'll happily trudge through hip high snow to have a river all to myself.

I decided on a tent after fishing with my little girl, she was not happy with the cold, and I decided that I would rather have he come along for the experience, than do it without her. that being said, if its a warm sunny day, I see no need to set up the tent other than for her to have a potty shelter. so I think tents have their place.

I decided to try my luck at Rockport yesterday. I found the ice to be inconsistent on depth. It was 2.5 inches of clear with 1.5 inches of frozen slush in the areas where there was no snow. I tried a couple of spots where there was snow and there was only about one inch of ice. I did try my luck by staying only on the areas with no snow. Managed some nice trout but couldn't find the perch. Wandering around looking for them was not an option. Maybe next weekend the ice will get thicker. If you want to take your kids to see some elk there were a bunch of them in the fields below the dam.

I haven’t been able to find perch there through the ice for a couple years but the trout are way nicer than I’ve caught in years prior. The elk are always there in the winter, it’s quite a site to see.
