Other Region RME Baja trip... ?

Sorry to say, but I think we're planning on a Thanksgiving trip 2020 at this point... the weather is just that much better. We went down last Christmas in 2018 and the weather was terrible, windy and cold. The time before that we went down over Thanksgiving and it was warm enough to go swimming.

The dates will be Nov 20th - 29th.

So myself and one other are interested in doing this over the Christmas break. Leave the day after Christmas and come back some time after the new year. Neither of us has any Baja experience. Anyone want to go during that time and show us around. Or maybe we just copy Greg's trip itinerary from his Thanksgiving trip? Anyone else want to go Over the Christmas Break?

On the dog question above, you no longer even need a health certificate to get your dog's into Mexico, but I would have one signed by our vet before hand for getting back into the US (not 100% certain on requirement, I can help research that more as it gets closer. Not really worth digging into now since rules change often.)
You would for sure want your dogs fully vaccinated- DHPP, Rabies and letpo, and be on parasite control that includes good tick control as parts of Mexico are endemic for some of the tick spread infections.

Very interested in the trip, but probably won't know availability until mid-year. Marked it in my planner, however.

Open invite for another Baja trip... March 19th - 27th.

Tentative plan for now is drive to Yuma, AZ on the 19th, head over the border on the 20th and into San Felipe. Spend a couple days there, then probably head further South. Bay of LA for a night or 2 and charter a fishing boat, possibly drive down to the amazing beaches at San Francisquito for a day. Then work on heading back. Get over the border on the 26th and drove home on the 27th.

We'd be in the wife's F150, hoping to have a RTT over the bed and be set up for camping.

If you're heading to San Francisquito, you can exit south towards El Arco and hit the 1. The road south where you turn to sf opens up a few miles later and pretty quickly turns into high speed dirt, and you're only a few miles from guerro negro on the highway.... Just sayin

I think we are probably another 3-5 ish years before my kids will be old enough for us to just completely abandon for a week or two.. but I am very much looking forward to it so we can join trips like this.

If you drive straight through down Hwy 1 it is only about a 30 hour drive from San Ysidro. Probably about 36 from Yuma. That is only 3 days down and back.

We did guerro negro and back in 5 days.. Like 11 to San Felipe, 4 to guerro negro from there. Nbd

Last time I was down doing pit support for B1K we were based out of Guerra Negro. We stayed in that hotel that was just on the north side of the border between Baja California and Baja Sur. It’s a neat area of Baja down that far south. Long ass drive to get there in 1 day on those narrow pot holed road towing a 24 foot enclosed trailer.

Last time I was down doing pit support for B1K we were based out of Guerra Negro. We stayed in that hotel that was just on the north side of the border between Baja California and Baja Sur. It’s a neat area of Baja down that far south. Long ass drive to get there in 1 day on those narrow pot holed road towing a 24 foot enclosed trailer.

Towing a trailer like that sounds miserable. The road from San Felipe is paved to the 1 now and has very little traffic and is much wider... Generally. But any time on the 1 feels like Russian roulette ha ha

My favorite part of the peninsula is around muleje and San juanico.. But it's all awesome

San Juanico was my favorite place when we were pre-running. The course from San Ignacio down to San Juanico was a blast. We grabbed some fuel from a "gas station" that filled us out of 55 gallon barrels, drank some Dos Equis we bought at the store next to the gas station and did some donuts on the beach before leaving to meet the chase crew over by El rosarito. I was surprised to find out how many Americans live in that area when I was talking to a guy driving a truck with Washington plates.

Oh ya, we had a wheel bearing go out on a custom 60/9" rear end on the salt flats between San juanico and San Ignacio, and finding parts for that kind of shit in the middle of nowhere isn't fun. Two days of 40-60 mph winds during an axle tear down later, we were moving.

I still get a kick out of fueling in juanico... The homies with 5 gallon cans starting the siphon with their mouths ha ha

Best shrimp tacos on the peninsula though
