General Tech Simple wiring kit for Taurus fan?

Is your fear of automotive electrical what's keeping you from wanting it on a thermostat? I used to have my taurus fan on a manual switch (off, high, low) . Always had to remember to turn it on and switch to high when needed. I finally put it on a thermostat and couldn't be happier. I still carry the switch, just in case I need a manual trail fix. It should be mentioned that my electrical knowledge is minimal at best but there is some good info out there that simplified the process. I'd be happy to talk to you about what I did. Basically this...

No, I just want it as simple and reliable as possible. Eliminating the thermostat just simplifies it.

I eventually want to rewire the entire Jeep. The last owners did a few mods that I'm not proud of. I'd like to get the wiring stripped down to only the absolutely necessary circuits.

I've already repaired a couple wiring issues, but I keep finding more.

Damn. And some people though the protests yesterday were bad. This is downright terrorism.

From what I can tell, they must have had a problem with the heater/blower and just started snipping wires. When I get some time I will go through it with the Haynes manual and label each wire that needs to stay, and completely remove the ones that aren't getting used. I'll also pull out the entire heater/blower assembly and just replace it with a Mojave heater from Summit. I really only need something to plug our Lava Jackets into.

If a CJ isnt about to burn to the ground in an electrical fire, is it really even a CJ?

Alright 12vdc wiring guru’s;

Not to thread hijack but if any of you can confirm another “simple” wiring task I’d appreciate it.

I want to be able to supply a light with two separate switches, like say one on the dash and one not on the dash.

I want to be able to turn the light on from either switch, but not have any electrical backfeeding issues. Is a relay on each switch enough to prevent this? Or do I need to put a diode of a sort in place somewhere.

Are you wanting to be able to turn on and/or off from either switch like a 3-way switch in you house?

You can do what you describe with just the 2 switches wired in parallel, keep in mind if ether switch is closed the circuit is complete but both switches will have to be open for the circuit to be off.

Exactly. Assuming you are controlling the light with a (single) relay, just split the low-power ground input into two wires and run each to a seperate toggle switch, which are in turn connected to any convenient ground. Flip either switch and your light will turn on, simple.

I've been trying to put one of these setups together for my Jeep and another for my Buick. It appears that the connector Part#: 61-13-1-378-412-BOE is no longer available which kind of brings me back to "start" for wanting to control my Taurus fan (Jeep) or my Escape fan (Buick). I haven't found any other two stage thermostats. My instinct is just to go back to the source (Ford) and see how the Taurus (or Escape) fan functions. Maybe that's controlled by the ECM and that's why everyone uses all the other methods out there?

I'm just gonna wire mine to run on low all the time. I'll rely on the mechanical thermostat to regulate coolant flow for temperature regulation.

Oh no, that's a bummer. I may have to make some wrecking yard trips or see if I can find anything for if/when I need a replacement. I know there were two different 2 stage thermostats for the BMW. Seems like they had about a 10° difference. I'll look into that and see what the temp on that one is and if it's still available.

Use these part numbers. Quick search shows both available on eBay. Other places too. I'm sure. That was just a quick search.

The temp switch seems to be available just the electrical plug housing to keep things tidy is no longer available (from multiple sources)?

My Jeep is currently wired on a manual three position switch. I'd like to make it less manual and move to the low speed kicks on at 165-180* and the high speed kicks on at 205-210* or so? Definitely want that on the Buick as they are WAY prone to overheating and that gal throws down some powa so it's even more so.

Have you given any consideration to running a factory shroud and a big fan with a clutch? I have a 7 blade fan with a truck clutch, most of the time it runs a thermostat temp about 170. Don't forget the radiator, I have a big block Griffin with 2 rows, each are 1 1/2" for a core of 3 inches. At almost 500 cu. in. AC in the summer is no problem except sometimes at a stop light it will go up a little but comes right down when I get moving. I have ran similar combinations on several big horse cars with good sucess.
