I’ve contributed to way less worthy causes than that. How much do you think the initial fine will be? I’d throw a 20 in haha

I'm starting to think you should just see if they follow up with the fine at all. Do nothing until they are supposed to fine you. THEN, if they do, you remove the top with help from guys here, get it signed off and then put back up after a month or so.

If they never send you a fine, it will likely end up like my shed....just and after thought with no enforcement.

I've been rereading Tocqueville's Democracy in America while rocking my fussy infant to sleep (as one does). And I'm on the section where he talks about Administrative Despotism. I thought it was fitting considering my current predicament.
He predicted a situation in which the regulatory state:

"…extends its arms over the entire society; it covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated, minute, and uniform rules, which the most original minds and the most vigorous souls cannot break through… it does not break wills, but it softens them, bends them and directs them; it rarely forces action, but it constantly opposes your acting; it does not destroy, it prevents birth; it does not tyrannize, it hinders, it represses, it enervates, it extinguishes, it stupefies, and finally it reduces each nation to being nothing more than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd."

About five months out on this, and nothing. Crickets. So I assume its lost in the administrative abyss which suits me just fine. Maybe they did a records search and found that the businesses now reside in St. George?

So that brings me to the next part of my civil disobedience: extending the carport to the front of the house! :D Does anyone know where I can get aluminum posts and I-Beams like these:
