if it's dry, and people have capable enough rigs, I think we could let a few of the noobs drive for part 2. But if it's super wet or icy or snowy, I don't want to be responsible for spotting someone into a rock I didn't see resulting in body damage

I do want to zip through rattlesnake though, it's going to be a long night as it is, and watching everyone take the hardest line for their rigs is going to make it a lot longer...

I'll probably just be a passenger for that reason as well, I dont think I'd want to be there for crazy hours trying to get through it without body damage. But I think I'm gonna go look at trip report photos of Snakes in daytime to get an idea.

Right now, I'm sitting at about 50% chance I'll be able to make it. I've never done anything with RME before and have never done Rattlesnake (been meaning to, but trying to lead a group of others on something I haven't done is a bit tricky).

Unless I pick up a new vehicle, I'll be bringing my 02 Tacoma on 32's, Rear locker, Sliders, Winch, etc.

I've done a few things in Moab and AF, but since it'll be dark and my first time on RS, I think I might take a passenger seat. I dont want to slow the run down.

I will most likely be attending the meet. I don't have sliders right now so I don't think I'll be attempting rattlesnake. The last time we all attempted it, our lead truck couldn't get past the big driver's side boulder near the beginning without nailing his sliders and my wheel base is a little longer than his. There is enough stuff in 5 mile to keep everyone entertained for a few hours though.

Glad to see others also want to move on from the dirt road stuff TW people want to do as well. How many times can they really do that same path at 5 mile? Your second gens will probably look a bit out of place though. I'll bring a hammer.

And to be fair, I believe Jason was trying to get up the start of Constrictor. From what I've read, I dont believe RS is even close to that (unless you want it to be)

yeah, I used to be very active over on TTORA, but most utah members over there just wants a cool looking truck to drive on fire roads, not to rock crawl (even though they spend $8k on lockers, sliders, icons, etc).

Glad to see more people making it out to rock crawling trails.

Without a working heater in the Bronco I'd have to take the F250, Is it worth it or just way to big to run up there?

sure, you could do part 1 with an F250, then ride along for part 2 if you felt like it. With your driving skills/experience you could probably get the f250 through rattlesnake, although I wouldn't want to myself.

Or we could try and help you fix your bronco heater before then

Steve do you really need sliders for snakes.. i dont recall any stock rigs having a problem..

With noobs, at night, for their first time on the trail, with possible wet/snowy conditions, I'm going to say they should have 'em.

plus I think the noobs will learn a lot by riding along an experienced driver. They'll learn how to smoothly get over stuff, how to bump obstacles, approach obstacles, etc. Things that, in my opinion, they should probably know how to do before doing rattlesnake the first time. At least that's my theory.

I've been out there too many times when a stock rig with a noob driver was just completely hi-centered and I felt scared watching them try to get unstuck by using more throttle...

Back when my wife and I owned his & her TJs, I took hers through Rattlesnake. It had a budget boost and wore 31" MT/Rs. It did not have any body armor, though it did have the factory plastic sidesteps. Going through the rock garden, I managed to remove the passenger side step from the vehicle. This did not cause any actual body damage, though I figure it may have had I actually been at stock height. Now I suppose I could have picked an easier line through the garden, but I was there to have fun.

Here is that Jeep on that exact trip right after ripping off that step, exiting the rock garden. (It is difficult to see the missing step from this angle, but oh well.)

First time I ran rattlesnake. Bone stock 4runner. absolutely no armor, and made it through without any damage. Of course I had some good experienced trail leaders, and it was day time. Think I may do the rattlesnake run if it's not too late when we start.
