Where has my Jeep been in Helldorado

You know what makes me smile on this thread is the fact that the PO said he wheeled the hell out of it and you still bought it. Something in the line of rode hard, put away wet comes to mind. The fact that it has ARBs gives you atleast a $2K headstart, then you add gearing and all the steering modes, you probably did come out okay. When I look for jeeps on KSL or anywhere else, If I see pictures of them in Moab I look but don't buy. It does sound like you have a good headstart on your jeep. Enjoy it and I say go give Helldorado another shot on 33's. :)

So far with this vehicle I am out of pocket $3,000 (new tires were a good chunk of that). So far I have easily fixed the mechanical issues with the steering setup, one rear axle shaft, and a front driveline. Everything works and it runs well for now. I will need to replace the clutch and slave cylinder sometime in the next two years as it feels there is some oil on the clutch plate itself. I will be replacing the brake pads this month as well. A couple of cosmetic fixes and it should be a decent running rig.

Worst case scenario, currently I would be able to get out of the vehicle what I have into it. I just want to make sure that I don't go way over my head and start dumping a lot of money into this. I would hate to see the typical rockcrawler Ad read "For Sale $6,000, invested over $12,000. My loss is your gain". I simply plan on making the most out of it while I have it.

I agree, you cant build it for what you paid if you do have to do some repair on it.

spaticus..you have a lot of body and alot of over hang.. so if near futue mods include cutting up your body.. that would be awesome :)

Yep. I watched a full sized 80 on 37s drop into there a couple years ago. He made to the middle of the gate keeper and badly trashed every door, fender and quarter panel, after he broke the front and rear axles. I watched for an hour one of the ugliest extractions I'd even seen. When I left he still wasn't out but I couldn't watch any more.

You are absolutly right but if you look at my update i did today of my build thread it will tell you more. I do plan to do a very low profile rear bumper and front as well, and cut body for clearance but as i said in my build update i plan to compete with my rig so in order to stay in the class im in i need a full width body still.
So what does that mean for me doing hellderado and other tuff trails..........Crunch, crack pop i guess:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Someone who did upper heldo with a full size bronco on 39's completed it and said "that was an exercise in winching" (intersting note is that was during NAXJA in Oct of like 2002, some xj guys were giving us bronco guys crap all he said was "I did upper heldo today where were you?")

I haven't walked that trail since lower heldo was closed... crap that was like 2003 or something!

You can walk the trail and see what you think it is a short hike.

So is what your saying is you think this trail would not be possible with my runner? As it currently stands proably not but, but in the near future many changes are coming:D

I garantee your runner would make it threw upper, i've seen a few 4runners on 35s do it, but i've never seen one make it threw without a few new scuffs on the body.

"I am sure that he was winching up this spot" This part of the original post made me laugh. you can bet your life he was winching up the last waterfall, but it is amazing he made it threw on 33's.

Thanks nate i think i could make it i just would want my skid plate on and the roll cage, im not too worried about a few new dings or dents and scratches.
I too have seen 4runners on 35's do alot of things including escalator and several hard obstacles in moab:greg:

I would like to see the attempt too. Last year we watched a ranger on 33s w/ welded diffs go through. I think every piece of glass and sheet metal received damage. It also required the help of bystanders to manage the squeeze (the alternative to the breakover rock. A 4runner maybe on 37s went with him and wasn't damaged too bad.

For me, this is a mandatory winch and roll cage trail. I would recommend that you have a trailer as well.

I wouldn't compare Upper Helldorado to the Escalator. The GateKeeper on UH will be a good indicator on how you will do. Also on another note, the Squeeze was tighter than I'd ever seen it a couple years ago, but could have changed since. We couldn't get an XJ on 37s through without him losing his left rear window and banging his rear hatch.

I ran it last October and caught my hatch on the squeeze section. I might have been ok if it weren't for the mud that made me slip off of the right side.

Being a complete noobie at wheeling I can now see from the pics and descriptions that some (not all) of you are completely nuts. In regards to the Helldorado trail I can see 2 things: 1. Some people have rigs that are built right to run a trail like this ( i.e no glass, external frame, lifted and locked right, and very tall tires). or 2. Some people either dont realize the damage the obstacles cause on this trail to their rig, or they just don't care and are going through for the experience. I am sure I will understand these people more and more as I get into this.

Now me personally in order for me to even consider a run through Helldorado I would want to fall into catergory 1, and have a machine built right for the damaging obstacles, which basically means that I wont be in there anytime soon :-\. It does look like a fun trail with the right rig.
