I'd leave about 1/2" all around. It'll twist a little, but not a ton.

Which v8 are you planning on in the future? v8s are cool, but in my mind, they kinda defeat what makes toyotas so great in the first place. You'll be putting a lot of stress on the t-case output shaft and axles with a v8.

If you're serious about the v8 down the road, just get the cheapest option now, like a TG skid/xmember since you'll be redoing it later anyway. Are you going to keep it IFS, or do a sas on it?

I have paralyzed myself a couple times with not doing things I should have done or I wanted to do because of things I thought I was going to do down the road that I never got around to doing. I say hack it up and enjoy your truck. I'll help.

i'm dead set on dropping a v8 in this thing. if i had another rig to wheel she would be hacked up and gutted already. part of the reason i have been trying to get that runner from your buddy maldito_x

i'm doing the SAS hopefully this summer. i want a chevy 5.3L with an atlas, undecided on tranny. i know its spendy but after playing with an atlas in St George, i'm in love. axles will need to be built well. i've downgraded to 35's last month as well so save the added stress on the axles. to many guys have suggested building the mini axles, thus why i've scrapped the full with idea.

thanx for the clearance info also.

Cool. If it were me, and I had decided on a v8, I'd go with tons to save money, but I don't want to derail your thread. It's your truck, it sounds like you've done tons of research, carry on!

Are you planning on staying street legal, or making a truggy?

i'd like to keep it street legal for now, part of the reason i was talked into the yota axles.

if i'm ever able to store a pull truck and trailer i'll truggy it out.

i emailed the guys at budbuilt, they say the stock height x-member they sell leaves about 3/4 of an inch of clearance. i'll be ordering up some new bombproof t-case and motor mounts to install along with budbuilts single x-member.

i'm hoping the new mounts will cure my tranny slipping out of gear. from what i read, the drivetrain will move around a bit to much with worn mounts and bump it out of gear. hoping for the best..

i have to hold the shifter in 1st gear, 3rd only pops out when i let off the throttle and then get back into it. if i maintain constant throttle in 3rd, it will stay in gear.

all other gears are fine.

got my budbuilt skid plate/tcase xmember as well as the bombproof tcase and motor mounts.

should also be on its way to get a bumper built in the next week or so.

Got the motor mounts on today, man they vibrate like hell! I'm hoping they break in a little bit so its not so loud. :/

finally got the budbuilt xmember in.

blew up the starter and have been meaning to change the rear main for awhile so she got the treatment. rear main, clutch, starter, t-case mount and budbuilt x-member.

still wont stay in 1st gear, something internally wrong with the trans.

anyway, increased my belly clearance a good 2.5-3 inches. :)

mine never got quieter....... I liked the tightness of my drive train but it comes at a cost to comfort

How much for you to make me a set? As soon as my Yota project slows down I'll have to get back into scaling. And build a scale version of my runner.
