Yep that's the route I was thinking of, in my opinion YES that is definitely passable in an AWD... you should make sure you are watching the weather though very carefully because snow, sleet and/or rain will make it impassable in an AWD. My suggestion would be to go with a minimum of two...

do you have a map you could post to show the route? The Skyline drive I know of is from US-6 all the way south past Mayfield UT. It would be passable, but it would be scary in super wet conditions by yourself in a AWD Car.

my advice would be buy off pirate4x4 classifieds... if you follow the posts daily and search stickies, yellow label or red label you will find what you need (new, fairly new, used)... most people on there do it all time. I also have see lots of wheel/tire packages go for what the price of what...
