Looks like I will be going with an SM420 with a Dana 300 T/C. So I posted this in the wanted forum, so we shall see what the junk yards have in store for me :D Thanks for your help and ideas everyone.

I am looking to swap a new tranny into my '70 FJ40. I have been thinking about an automatic, maybe a TH350. On the other hand, I like the sound of a first gear ratio of 7.05 with an SM420. With the stock 3 spd tranny I have now, I tend to heat the clutch up pretty good when rock crawling, and...

Well just took the top and doors off my FJ40 :cool: Its not bad when you have a thick jacket at night :D And have gotten a lot of looks, too. Not sure if it is because of being a lifted cruiser, the orange paint, or a guy freezing his ass off in a topless cruiser....we may never know...

Here's mine....'70 FJ40, 283 V-8, dual exhaust, 4 inch Downey lift, revolver shackles in rear, 35x12.5 Mud Kings on 15x10 AR Baja's, custom 20-some can paint job :D , custom rewired, custom dash, Autometer guages, Summit Racing bucket seats.....an its just the beginning :D

I have thought about SO on it, but would like to keep the center of gravity a little lower. Who knows, I may end up doing it. Thanks.

both front and rear have 5 leaves

I have an Fj40 with 4 inch Downey springs on it, and man is it stiff. I have had them for about 6 months and they havent softened up on the road. They dont flex alot either. I was wondering if I were to remove one of the leaves and or replace it with a stock leaf, which one would be the best...

Anyone know the state requirements for exhaust pipe routing? I have a 1970 FJ40 with dual exhaust coming out in front of the rear tires, and want to know if that will pass inspections or not.
