    Let's Talk Lawns

I"m pretty pleased with how ours looks for being early in the season. Friday night after the fourth mow of the season. Also edged and trimmed. Saturday morning while enjoying a couple cups of coffee.

    Crew cab hot rod

Hey JJ, the wife and I passed by your place Saturday early evening. Honked as we drove by, you were just getting in your white shortbed. I wasn't really paying attention then the wife said "hey isn't that your buddy that lives out here"? Sure enough.

General Tech What did you work on Today?

To be honest, I really didn't notice much of a difference in the actual weld or weld process. I started using it a few years ago because it is stronger than 4043 and with cast in particular, I wanted every advantage possible to avoid any additional stress cracking once the repair was complete.

Nice job on the cast aluminum repair. I've done quite a bit of cast aluminum welding over the years as well as I also bathe the torch/arc over the area to do some pre-cleaning measures before adding filler. It also does a good job of adding some heat for pre-heating the part. I've started...

    CO2 Tank Refill

Thank you. I would have thought if they moved they would have had some signage on the door or something. The fact that there was nothing led me to believe that they must have closed down. I'll check over on 25th street. Thank you.

    CO2 Tank Refill

Wheew. I was getting worried as I really didn't want to go back to an air compressor as the CO2 is just so fast. Bevgas in northern Salt Lake. 2100 N. Redwood Road Suite 85 Filled it while I waited. In/out in about 5 minutes.

    CO2 Tank Refill

Just hung up with Moonlight Garden Supply and they also only do exchange process of the tanks they have in stock. Shit, this isn't looking good.

    CO2 Tank Refill

Thank you. They open @ 10am so I'll be giving them a call. I was on the phone with anywhere I could think of between welding supply stores and medical supply stores yesterday with zero success finding anyone who refills. They are now Linde Welding Supply. Called them yesterday and they do...

    CO2 Tank Refill

Sorry to drum up an old thread but does anyone have a source for CO2 in the Ogden area? I went to Ogden City Brewing Supply yesterday and they are all closed up, building empty. I was just there a few months ago and got a refill and didn't realize they were closing. Norco unfortunately, wants...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

@Gravy , seeing as how you specifically mention motorcycle cases I thought I'd share my experience from all the years of welding them during my career. Most of the time engine cases being a little thinner I will use a higher frequency between 90 to 120 Hz. Also, especially with the Japanese...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Thank you. Thanks. Balance was set to 60% EN to allow a bit more cleaning and I used 80 Hz for the majority of the repair. I bumped it down to 70Hz when doing the thicker portion where the transmission bolts up but the majority of it was @ 80 Hz. This puts a little more heat into the part...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

On to the last of the pictures from the repair. Last pass. Total removed was .036" from the transmission mating surface. That small of an amount shouldn't have any effect on the distance between the engine and transmission to negatively affect clutch engagement. Another check with the...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Continuing on. I started with a rather light cut to get my travel speed and cutter speed dialed in for a nice finish. This is a good indicator if your mill's head is trammed in correctly. No detectable ridges between passes. With one light pass complete and feeds and speeds dialed in it...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Continuing on. I reached for my larger machinist square. Measured side to side and found there was quite a variance. I then laid the square across the transmission mounting surface and noted a .030" difference from side to side. To confirm my rough measurements I grabbed my Starrett...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

This brings me to Saturday morning. Out to the shop with coffee in hand to continue where Ieft off the night before. For starters, on Saturday mornings when powering on the air compressor and opening the ball valve, I drain the tank into a gallon jug I keep next to it on the floor. I then...
