What would you pick, and why?

This would be for my 2 Dr JK Rubicon. I've narrowed it down to the Warn VR10,000 and the Warn M8000.

Bacon.

I dont know enough about the two to compare them personally, but I have a VR9000 and I've been happy with it. I'd say 8000 lbs would be plenty fine for your rig.

That's great feedback on the VR line. Care to pm me some prices? I'm looking at the standard cable models due to cost.

Sorry, I'm out of town and I'd be lying if I told you I would remember to PM you when I'm back in front of a computer next week. But if you shoot me an email (Kurt@cruiseroutfitters.com) or give us a ring during the work week I can check stock, prices, etc. Lmk

Between those two, I would choose the M8000. In fact, I did choose the M8000 back when I bought my winch.

I don't like Warn's new web page layout. In the old days, it was very clear that Warn divided their winches into three primary categories: Standard Duty, Premium Series and Ultimate Performance. Compared to the Standard Duty models, the Premium Series received numerous upgraded internal components and improved water resistance... and compared to the Premium Series, the Ultimate Performance models were upgraded further still.

My initial plan was to buy an Ultimate Performance model--specifically, the 9.5cti. I made this decision in summer 2012 but I didn't have the funds at the time because this model was priced above my initial winch budget. Next spring, I was finally ready to pull the trigger... only to learn the price had risen another $250 since last summer. So much for that plan. At that point, I decided to stay within my original budget. I considered the VR10000 for a brief moment; after all, it has more peak capacity for a similar price, right? However, I quickly decided I would rather have the upgraded hardware and increased durability of the Premium Series. For under $600, I felt the M8000 was an extremely good value.

I still feel this way today. For anyone shopping for a winch on a tight budget, I always suggest the M8000.

I had an M8000 on mine, never had to use it for myself but was plenty good pulling others out in the short time I had it.

The solenoid box is a little nicer on the M series as well as the remote. Other than that I doubt you would ever notice the difference. Also warn just released there gen 2 VR series that looks to be finished nicer and resembles the Xeon line. My vote would be VR as I've used both.

I went with the M8000 for this reason

I vote for the higher capacity, because you never know when you'll need it. This may be naive of me to say, but I'd assume that since they're both Warn products, they're both likely to be decent quality, so I'd choose the bigger one.

An update on this thread. I finally had a chance to use the winch a few weeks ago. The line speed is surprisingly fast, and the capacity seems more than adequate. The VR 10 yanks my JK around quite easily it seems, even with the small trailer behind the JK.

Very happy with my choice so far. I will be using it much more often to drag dead trees on my property.
