Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

Dang I havn't been on here in a while, I've been riding way more than crawling the last few years. The Jeep makes it out maybe twice a year at the most.

The claim the amount of rise is tunable, so you can limit the travel top-out to exactly where you wanna sit. I don't have a dropper yet, I would have thought that would be a feature on most droppers? Is it not?

The higher end bikes have them. There are a lot of droppers that have 3 or so stop positions too. The more money you spend on your bike, the better the dropper post.

You can also adjust a dropper by only putting it halfway down. My wife's is a little too tall so she only let's it go up about 75%. Kind of a pain, but it works

That's what I was wondering, if a 125mm forex will always rise 125mm or if you can limit the rise with something besides yer bum.

If not, I guess the key is to measure the distance between your collar and seat, and aim for the most travel you can get without going over that?

No, most posts dont have adjustable max travel. It's a cool feature by oneup. They have some cool products.

My buddy put a limiting strap on his wife's dropper to remedy this issue and it's now perfect for her. She needed a 100mm dropper, but had a 125mm dropper.

Unfortunately, even if you run a oneup 150mm dropper at 100mm limited, you need enough seat tube to fit ~150mm of insertion. Most people who need 100mm droppers dont have 150mm of straight seat tube on their bikes.


I'd rather have a dropper over disc brakes, suspension, or just about any other component. They are a complete gamechanger, especially for small riders.

You are correct. The only other option is to run a DIY limiting strap of some kind. Dont forget that you also need to decide on internal or external routing (dependent on your frame), as well as picking one with the same seat tube diameter as your frame (unless your seat tube diameter is wide enough to run a shim).

Dropper posts are magical. I agree with Steve. I would give up lots of other fancy things on my bikes before I'd give up my dropper post.
I have an early A1 Reverb 125mm on one bike and a KS Lev DX 150mm on the other. Both are infinitely adjustable--not preset positions. Preset positions wouldn't be a downer for me since I'm usually all the way up or down. I don't ride in the middle of the travel that often.
The Reverb had to be rebuilt while still under warranty, but has been pretty reliable since it got the upgraded parts. The KS has been a flawless performer. Their only fault is not enough drop.
I will also say that I prefer the cable actuation of the KS. I broke the hydraulic line off the Reverb remote in a crash and then my seat wouldn't move. Cables are easier to mess with on the trail, should the need arise. And the Reverb remote kind of sucks in my opinion.
I do have a Bike Yoke Revive 185mm on back order, which I am super excited about. I'm actually in the process of building a new frame just so I can fit a longer stroke dropper post. I designed it so a 200mm 9.8 Fall Line dropper would squeeze in there but there were a lot of things I liked about the Bike Yoke post. I'll report back when I get some more ride time on it.
The One Up post looks interesting, but I'd already ordered the Revive.

I think you're going to love your bike yoke revive. I have one on my spot rollik and I really like it. I also love the 9.8.

My son who is a junior this year got a Davis High Mtn Bike teammate and raced the Wasatch 360 6 hr race near Heber Saturday. They raced in the Men’s Duo category. They alternated every other lap and managed 8 total laps in that time period for a total of 90 miles. They wound up with 2nd place out of 10 men’s teams. They had the 6th best time of the day out of 59 entrants. They had a great race. He is tired today. The start was pretty cool. They had to run about 100’ before they could get on their bikes. Harrison is the one on the left They were averaging 50 min laps which were just over 11 miles each

The crazy thing is, there was a man that took 2nd overall and he raced by himself. What an animal

Anyone want to help me do some used bike shopping on KSL?
I haven't bought a decent bike since 2005. I need a medium or large frame and would like discs and full suspension so I can ride with some of you guys. Maybe $500 max budget. I don't really know component levels or what suspension is good or bad.

Full suspension and $500 is going to be tight. They'll be out there, but older frame designs and older components. Are you thinking DH bike or more of an all-rounder?

It's crazy how expensive mtbs have gotten. It's now at the point where mountain bikes cost more than dirt bikes these days, even in the used market.

The running joke in the mtb world is that only dentists can afford a new bike.

If I had paid full blown retail for my bike it would have cost more than I paid for my car. And my bike in the the MTB world is relatively inexpensive

And resale sucks on bikes too. Ride a bike for 2 years and you're lucky to sell it for half what you paid for it.

Its embarrassing what my bike cost, but it's brought more joy, exercise, and enjoyment than almost any other investment. I typically get 3-4 rides a week, and it has helped me stay in shape. And my bike has been so little maintenance. I swap grips and tires tires every 4-5 months, wash it, and lube the chain. That's about it. Bikes are awesome these days (albeit way overpriced).

Personally, I'd rather have a plus hardtail with a dropper post ($800-$1000 used) over a full suspension without one, but that's just me. That being said, utah is truly one of the states where a full suspension makes a huge difference. The terrain is just so chunky. Exception would be if you mainly ride corner canyon or lambert.

We just passed through California, and while there were one or two trails with true chunk, 99% of the trails here do not require a full suspension. Utah and Colorado are totally different stories.

Even under $1k, its going to be tough to find a decent dual suspension bike sadly. That being said, we can find you a bike for $500 or less, but it's not going to be fantastic.

I wouldn't be stoked about any of those bikes except for the enduro, but this is a good picture of what you can get for that price.
