Thoughts on Warn PowerPlant winches

I need to get a new winch for he LJ. I have been looking at he Warn PowerPlant winches and just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on them. It is going on a 2006 LJ. I know they are huge and can block the air flow to the radiator. Has this been a problem for anyone running one on a TJ or LJ? Are they reliable, and work good? Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Russ

I have actually never seen one mounted on anything except JK's and full size rigs. So not sure how bad the blockage of the radiator would be on a TJ. They put out a good amount of CFM though. Air up tires pretty fast. As fast or even a bit faster than a dual ARB. And the winch itself is a Warn, good as any other Warn. I think they are good to go as far as all that goes.

But they ARE huge... Kind of dominates the front of every rig I've seen one on. If you don't have any kind of sub mounting feature on the bumper, I think you are right to be concerned about the blockage.

I agree with everything @DAA said. They are conveniently all-in-one, but are huge and expensive. I think I'd prefer a different Warn winch, and a separate compressor, all things considered.

Here's a pic I stole from the internet showing how big they are compared to a TJ grill. If there were an easy way to recess the mounting down inside the bumper, it would help--but that's a big job on a TJ, there just isn't that much room down in between the frame rails.

I had one on the scout for a bit. The compressor was nice. The winch seemed over rated to me. Didn’t pull like I thought it should so I sold it. Keep in mind my scout was 8000ish lbs

I would put one on a Jeep if I wasn’t worried about blocking the radiator.

I was chatting with my buddy at Six States the other week. He told me that the compressors on the things were junk. Have warrantied a bunch of them.
