Is anyone else planning on doing the Gambler?

500 mile offroad rally in $500 cars. 2wd preferred.

This will be my 3rd Gambler event and I just picked up my car on Friday. Let the build begin!

My entry for the event is a 95 Corolla purchased for $250. It should be getting a small lift, skid plates, some Hella lights I've had laying around, and some knobbly tires. We'll see if it will survive, it should definitely be a gamble!

Here are the rigs from the last 2 events. We ran the Saturn Vue last year with a few complications. Jb weld steel stick repair on trans pan and oil pan twice. We blew the head gasket with 10 miles to go on day 2 and made it to the finish line with zero coolant in the system

The 2wd Suburban (Wrangler Burbicon) we ran in the spring was an excellent Gambler. We could haul some serious ass on rough roads sitting in cushy leather seats. We were the 2nd team to cross the finish line having hit ALL the waypoints. It wasn't enough of a challenge though, hence the decision to run a Corolla this year.

Finding a $500 car is a challenge, every year this comes up I think it would be a blast to run it.
If I had to pick one off ksl right now
or
or
I took my driver's test in one of these.

Link to the under $500 if anyone is looking

I picked up the Corolla for $250 and drove it home from Hyrum to Perry. It was a bit sketchy as it had a nasty wobbly wheel bearing. Hopefully I'll be able to get it on the road again without too much investment

I don't think any of our group is running it this year... I couldn't get a car, and none of my buddies seem like they are running it either. :(

I am still keeping my eye open for an old crown vic to get ready hopefully for next year.

El Destructo!
The guys who acquired our "Green latrine" car from last year told me it's available if anybody is looking for a ride. You could have it ready to run in a half day or so. Needs an exhaust scabbed on

It was great to meet you guys! The 2runnner turned out awesome! I actually had a family event come up Sunday that I couldn't miss. We had a great time. The Corolla did really well. We hit all the way points except the view (sketchy shooting range) and the Blowhole (climb was too loose and steep). There was another rediculously steep climb that we wouldn't have made without being bumped and pushed to the top by a Grand Marquis.

That corolla is freaking sweet. I love it! How did the SXS tires do on the roads? Probably no big deal I would guess?

They were loud as hell on the road! The wear really wasn't too bad other than the left front which took a lot of abuse from wheelspin up the rocky climbs.

We ran them at 25psi and with the soft sidewalls they would soak up small bumps really well. Embedded rocks and gnarly washboard were no problem!

Off-roading in a totally inappropriate vehicle is hilarious fun!

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
So, now that it's all over, what do you do with the car? Is it junk? Can it be sold off? I'd love to do this next year.
