I’m kinda looking at picking up a 1984 AMC Eagle with the stop to switch 4x4. Anyone have any info on these? I test drove it in the snow and can’t really tell if the 4x4 works didn’t really seem to slip either way. Just kinda wondering if these are junk or would be a fun ski slope/ snow driver

I spotted an AMC Eagle in the local salvage yard here in Evanston about a week ago. It was complete and in fantastic condition. I could get pictures for you if you are interested.

I’m good I went and drove one I’m thinking about. Feels like it needs carb work. There was some snow on the roads but I couldn’t get it to break traction in 2 or 4 and I can’t feel a difference so I can’t tell if the 4x4 actually works.

I gave her a good once over today. Actually in really good shape. Under side is nearly rust free. Even the exhaust looks great. I did come up with a list of needed repairs.

Pitman Arm
Idler Arm
Transmission Mount
Air Filter
Lift Supports for the rear hatch
new gas cap.
And I ordered a new transmission filter gasket also. Opinions if I should service it? Seems some say don't its the best way to ruin a good transmission.

My sister who lives in Rock Springs, WY had one new back in the early 80's. I remember it never left her and got her wherever she needed to go but as it aged I had to replace vacuum lines as they rotted, and there were a ton of them. I do remember it being quite comfortable to drive though.

Looking forward to what you do with it.
