For the last few years I've been dabbling in getting back into art but haven't taken it very serious, maybe nows the time I use this social distancing to create some stuff If only for my house and garage. I've mostly been playing with pen, pencil, water color and pastels. One thing I've never tried is oil painting. I personally don't have anything super fantastic to share, I do have some ideas I would like to try though, I thought about even watching some Bob Ross. For me when I get really into an art piece it can almost turn into a zen like meditation process.

Got anything cool to share that you have done yourself?

Here's a piece from one of my mentors, one of probably at least a dozen water color paintings of my father that my uncle did, an aunt has this one. I don't know that I can be this talented but if I don't keep practicing I will never know right? 🙂IMG_20200305_182820.jpg

Here's a cheesy one I busted out in about an hour with some of the oil pastels maybe 4 years ago? I've still not played with those a whole lot. Amateur at best. Good enough though that my brother seen it and knew exactly where it was. 😁

Art is art, put that thing on the fridge
I can’t believe it, but my wife actually let me put it up!! We’re not pros, but it helps pass the time.

really I suck at drawing, and I kinda dread it, but I love pottery. Just been years since I’ve done it.

That's awesome, my uncle that does the paintings also does/did pottery, I have a few pieces from the 70s. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

As a landscape architect I can definitely say that choosing to develop my creative and artistic capabilities has been one of the great satisfactions of my life. My dads thing is Christmas decorating...I will never understand it, but he is actually pretty amazing at it and I know he starts counting down the days in September.

I think that anybody with any level of talent or interest should find some way of creative expression and run with it.

Absolutely, I guess that was part of my reasoning for starting this thread, maybe inspire to be creative, artsy or whatever brings you joy. I'll see if I can post up some more arts and crafts from around my home that probably don't have any monetary value but are priceless to me. I certainly have a list a mile long of arts and crafts projects I've been meaning to do but just haven't done yet.

Cool to see positive use of down time.

My son (BYU student) is co-writing songs and my daughter who is on her 14 day isolation between returning from the Philippines and waiting mission reassignment is painting a mural on her bedroom wall.

My dad was also very artistic and talented, he never did paintings and such like my uncle but very skilled and crafty in his own way. Here's a skull he painted, early 80's, it used to hang out in front of our tipi. I would consider this a form of art.

Also to briefly explain my dad and uncles, they are members of the AMM (American Mountain Men) here are a few small pieces of bead and quillwork my dad did.

And for those who don't know.

"
The American Mountain Men is an association of individuals dedicated to the preservation of the traditions and ways of our nation’s greatest, most daring explorers and pioneers, the Mountain Men; to the actual conservation of our nation’s remaining natural wilderness and wildlife; and to the ability of our members to survive alone, under any circumstances, using only what nature has to offer. Although we are now world-wide, we are not a large group. We are not interested in the quantity of members; we are interested in the quality of members. Our members are best and proud of it.
The American Mountain Men’s primary characteristic is, first and foremost, to be a Brotherhood of Men. In this fraternal concept is embedded the desire of all its members to teach, share, and learn the arts and skills of the original American mountain men, but deeper still, is the desire to be upon the trail, on lake or river, in mountains, plains or woods, as brothers, sharing this great experience. The sense of camaraderie and the shared endeavor are more important, always, than individual gain. These are the goals and the founding wisdom of A.M.M. To keep alive the skills of the freest men our great nation ever birthed; to preserve his abilities and emulate his way of life as historically accurately as possible."
