Looks like very few, less than a thousand, were built. Most were made in Mexico and none were officially sold in the US.
Growing up there was a guy who lived a few doors up that had a '69 Chevelle SS. Can't remember all he had done to it, but it chirped tires changing gears on the freeway. It was awesome.
He also had a VW Vanagon Westphalia Synchro with a 911 motor in it. Arguably, I thought that was cooler than the Chevelle.
