Super moon and Perseids meteor shower

Anyone staying up to enjoy the super moon or Perseids meteor shower tonight? Share your stories and photos

A big bright full moon and a meteor shower doesn't sound like they work with each other well..?

The moon was pretty incredible over the weekend. We were up to Beaver Creek camping and it was BRIGHT. I might put some time in early in the morning to check it out. My daughter is camping on Timp tonight and getting up at 4 a.m. for a photo shoot. She'll have a great view.

This year, the Perseid shower peaks on the night of August 12th (Tuesday) into the morning of the 13th (Wednesday). Sadly, it seems the waning gibbous moon will be visible all night long, which is detrimental to watching meteors... but the Perseid shower is known for producing meteors which are so bright and numerous that it will still be worth heading out to watch.

I plan to go out for at least a couple hours Tuesday night, probably around 11:00-1:00 or so.

Anybody watching for the meteor shower tonight? We just started, but haven’t seen anything yet.

I went outside at 10:30 last night to see if anything would materialize. Everything I read said there might be a meteor shower depending on the precise paths of both the Earth and the comet in question--there could be a dazzling show, but only if everything lined up perfectly. After 5 or 6 minutes of attentive gazing, I still didn't see anything. (There may have been one meteor that I glimpsed out of the corner of my eye, but when I aimed my gaze in its direction there was nothing... so maybe I just imagined it?)

After that, I figured it was a bust and went back inside. I hope I didn't miss anything spectacular.

We saw quite a few (20?) in the 30 minutes we watched. Most were very short and faint, not the bright brilliant stars that are more fun.

I don't think you missed much.
