I screwed up my door

Ever since we moved into our house 4+ years ago, my wife has wanted to paint our front door. So yesterday was the day. As all projects go, it took longer than expected. The original paint was absolutely garbage, and needed to be removed; it peeled like a bad sunburn in some places, and couldn’t even be sanded off in other places. I ended up using a soft flexible ‘finish and blend’ disc on the angle grinder, which took a while, but did the job. I was running out of daylight, so I threw two coats of primer on it, and called it a night.

Today, I go to inspect the progress, and the door looks like absolute trash. The “finish and blend’ discs were apparently aggressive enough to remove a little bit of the fiberglass, and now the once flat door has grooves machined into it. I’ll take the blame for it, as I wasn’t using it the way it was intended. Love and learn. Either way, I’m not pleased. Shy of sanding everything down (again) and fixing it with fiberglass filler, so I have any options on fixing this over the 2x coats of primer? Final color will be yellow.

Run to home depot. Pay $158, and be done with it. Door

Or, Steve will get you an exact fit with hinges and holes exact, and it will be cheaper... but you have to take your old slab with you, and often need to order ahead.. call him.

And, if you are going through steve, buy a more modern door style, and really impress the wife.

And just my 2 cents, spraying the door is 1,000x's better looking than brushing. I've painted dozens of doors. Rentals get brushed, any door of significance gets sprayed. A cheap HF sprayer will be fine for a door.

It took a weeks worth of evenings, but it’s done. Sanded the white down, applied bondo, sanded bondo, applied bondo again, sanded again, primer x2, and then final paint x3.

Yea, it’s really bright. But it’s the color my wife and daughters wanted. Just a little bit of final trim work left, but I’ll call this project done. Thanks for the pointers everyone 🍻

I like the color, my whole house is yellow.

Your door seems to need a power cord so it might be brighter than my house.
