I’ll be busy every weekend through Labor Day. I could likely sneak away from work around 3 pm for a 4pm meetup during the week, otherwise the Saturday after labor day would work for me

Sundays are days that work best for me if it is an open invite, I can fit 6 in my truck. I potentially might have 2 others that would go if I gave them enough notice to get out of their church duties.

Saturdays are tough for me until the end of October, I'm either working or at my boy's NICA races. If we can't find a Sunday that works for everybody, I could try and squeak in a Saturday morning ride after work. But the last time I rode Crest after working all night I got a new helmet, so...

I have weekdays free here and there too, but I don't know who else besides RockChucker and I could make that work?

So my fitness level likely isn't high enough for this ride, but I'm curious what you all think the fitness level should be for this trail. What kind of riding, and how many weekly miles should I consistently do in order not to die on this trail?

I mean, it's hard to say. I do about twenty to fifty miles a week depending, mixed road and trail miles and I don't consider myself in any sort of shape except round. But I love me some Crest...

The vast majority of the trail is downhill and coastable, it's not a pedal fest. Assuming you shuttle to Guardsmans Pass and ride from there, there's really only two climbs of note. Puke Hill is about half a mile and 350 ft of loose babyheads that'll make you want to cry if you're not ready for it. Red Hill is slightly longer, much smoother, and a little less elevation gain and won't tax you quite as badly. Both are walkable, and lots of riders do. At my pace (slightly faster than a paraplegic turtle), the ride back to the parking lot at the bottom of Mill Creek takes about three hours. Maybe a little more now that Upper Pipeline is complete.

I don't think you need to be in awesome shape to survive Crest, as long as you know your limits and are willing to slow down and/or get off the bike and walk when you need to. I think as long as you aren't a complete couch potato and your sit bones can tolerate a couple hours in the saddle (hi @TRD270!), you can do the ride.

On that note, I had my tubeless tires regouped last spring (21). They're still holding air, but do I need to have them cleaned out and redone again? I don't know how long that stuff is supposed to last.

A year is about long enough for most sealant to get pretty dried out, yeah. You don't have to clean them out, but since your bike has been sitting it may have all congealed in a puddle and throw your wheel balance off. If you spin the wheel and can't feel it pulling like it's off balance, you could definitely getting away with just pumping another couple oz of sealant in through the valve stem though.

I know you're a busy guy, but riding does crucial things for my mental health. You should see if you can make time.
