I’m a bit behind the curve on the gen 4 and 5, but was looking at a 2015 gmc the other day. Thought it would be the perfect set up for my LJ. Then I noticed the offset water pump. It sits right where the power steering pump would sit, if it had one. Also it looks like it has a vacuum pump mounted on the lower driver side as well. Does that have to stay for the brake booster?

The L83 water pump is weird and may be hard to work around. Luckily, an L87 water pump can be used which is a traditional style pump. I’ll have to address the whole front accessory drive anyhow because I’ll need to add a power steering pump.

The L83’s do have a vacuum pump for the brakes. This is because when the engine drops into V4 mode, it doesn’t produce enough vacuum for brakes. The vacuum pump can be deleted (there are two block off screws required). Some people add a vacuum port to the intake manifold, and omit the V4 functionality from the computer. I’m not sure of what I’ll do yet. I may look into adding a vacuum reservoir, or if needed, I can go to a hydrabooster.

The factory exhaust manifolds are not going to work in the FJ80 frame, so I bought a set of manifolds off an LT1/LT4 6.2 Camaro.
I think the flanges on those will still need to be modified, but they should work.

My oil pan was beat to hell in transit, so I've ordered a lower profile replacement which will aid in the swap anyhow.

The motor mount (which you can barely see beneath the exhaust manifold in the second engine pic above) is from transdapt.

The L87 pump has a threaded snout for a mechanical fan. I have one from the 2003 6.0 that went in my buggy. The threads are the same.

UNFORTUNATELY, it all has to come back off. The water pump (near the thermostat housing) is SUPPOSED to be machined for a tensioner pulley. I didn't notice that mine wasn't until I went to install the tensioner... This is a genuine AC Delco pump from GM.

My oil pan was crunched pretty hard in transport, which was ok since the factory pan was too deep for my application anyhow. I ordered a 6 quart shallow pan from speed engineering. It’s about 3” shorter than the factory pan.

The LT oil pan is a neat bit of engineering. The oil pickup, a bolt in sump dealio, and a windage tray are all self contained. There are 3 o-rings that seal up to the engine when it’s bolted on.
