Great rack! It’s neat how quick the velocirax took over. Of all vehicles I see rolling through town, the majority with >2 bikes are on velocirax.

I’m still wearing out my fork crown paint on my north shore. The only reason I’m still using it is it’s easiest to install, remove, store, fold up while on truck, etc.

I’m 1.4 miles away from my annual goal (750), and can’t figure out when to squeeze in a ride by Saturday  My bike is at my office and I’m on kid duty until Saturday. Normally I’d just take my kids for a ride, but it’s pretty darn cold out!

My goal was 1000, and I've been at 959 since October. There just hasn't been time, and when there's been time it's been lousy weather.

900 miles by October is impressive! 750 was a big year for me, trying to decide on next year.

This fall I rode quite a bit more, I’m I’m debating 40m/week and 2k for the year. It’d be a huge stretch from this year.

Finished up last ride of the year on North 40 with my riding buddy that never complains.684CCFCB-F9B6-4B34-84CF-D639855A6617.jpeg

I bonked today o_O I knew what bonking is just never experienced it before. My typical lunch ride is 10ish miles, today was the same, 2 laps on the practice loop from town.

As I rounded the corner of Dave’s Market, it started to hit me, I considered grabbing something but figured my work is like half mile away of flat asphalt, so I should be able to get back easily. 100’ later I was sprawled out on the sidewalk. Numb hands, cramping and numb abs, just felt terrible. 5 minutes later I picked up the bike and was able to pedal back the office at a snails pace. Downed some sweets and ate my lunch. I still feel gross, but much better. Hindsight - I ate a grapefruit for breakfast and was planning to eat lunch after.

10/10 would not recommend. I need to figure out a plan to make this never happen again. Stashing protein bar?

You ride a lot more minimalist than me, but I always ride with water and snacks, even if it's a short one, just for this reason. I also make sure and eat something within an hour or 2 of leaving on a ride.

I had that happen on a longer 25 mile ride all over south mountain (alpine over to draper and back a couple times) in 2020. I was dumb. Forgot to eat breakfast and planned to be back a little after noon. I had plenty of water but no snacks. I think I would have been fine had I had something salty to replace all the salt I was sweating out. My legs were mega cramped up. I was standing over my bike 300 vert feet from the top of my last climb trying to get my legs to calm down so I could continue. A guy came up on me fast and as I moved to get out of the way my knees basically locked and I just tipped over into the brush as he went past. I always make sure I eat breakfast and have some sort of salty snack or electrolyte replenishment of sorts on bigger rides now.

I haven't bonked mountain biking but I definitely have bonked Desert Racing. When the average race is 70-100 miles I've done it a few times. (Remember when I stayed over after Rhino Rally).
An older guy told me that if I feel hungry or thirsty while I'm riding that it's too late. So I've been really good about food before and during races. I really like cold applesauce squeezies (from the kid isle of the grocery store) when I come into pits.
I do 1 Gatorade to 3 waters in my CamelBak too.

I've done that once or twice. It definitely sucks. I pretty much always have a couple extra snacks or gels beyond what I expect to use during a ride now, stashed in my hip pack or in a bike bag. I'm not a big fan of most protein bars, personally. They're hard to eat when I'm tired and they don't sit well in my stomach. I like trail mix, dried fruit, fig bars, sometimes I'll pack a peanut butter and honey sammich. And if I'm carrying more than one bottle, at least one of them has Skratch or something similar in it, especially if it's hot.

What bike mounted child carrier do you guys use for riding with toddlers? My daughter will be 3 this year, and I think she'd enjoy going on rides with me.

Timely question! I just ordered a Mac ride a few minutes ago. My little guy will be 2 in June, so he’ll probably be ready to upgrade from his Thule mini yepp this spring.

IMO there are only two good options, the mac ride or the kids ride shotgun pro.

I went with the Mac ride because most reviews said the seat sits lower, and is more supportive over rough terrain. It’s shaped like a banana, where the shotgun looks like a traditional bike seat.

Those both look good. My dropper fits all the way down in my seat tube, so I'd have to adjust the height every time I install and remove. That's the only down side I see with those two. My daughter is pretty small for her age, like 27lbs and short, so I don't know if that changes recommendations.

The seat I have for my 2 year old is too small for him (he's kind of a beast) so I was thinking about this more in the fall. That Mac looks pretty cool. I bet he'd love that. He rides the strider pretty good but I do like to go for longer rides around the neighborhood and he's always enjoyed coming with me.

I have a kids ride shotgun (not the pro version). it has been great. like @Gravy said, it is kind of a pain to put on and take off, but so worth the effort. my daughter will turn 3 this summer and is pretty small at 26 lbs. It took a few rides around the neighborhood to get her trained up to hold on, but now she loves it and we've run trails in corner canyon like vertigo and rattle and hum. can't wait to run more when it gets warmer.

She’s tiny! I think the age is more about maturity/understanding/ability to communicate than size.

Looks like the seat needs 20mm of the dropper collar to mount. Maybe increase seat height by that much and see if it’s noticeable?
