If you take the carrier out of your diff housing you will need to reset the backlash on them. The 8.25 does not adjust the backlash via shims. There are threaded cups of sort on the outer endges of the carrier bearings that you have to adjust both your backlash on as well as your bearing...

I am considering installing a hydro assist, however I would still very much like a selectable locker up front.

Do you have any pics of the washout where the road used to be? When we ran the trail in June the washed out section was about 40' from where the sign indicating where the sand damn across Lake Canyon was/used to be. It was crazy to see the amount of sand that had washed down there at that...
