It turned out to be a similar issue. It was the positive battery cable. The battery must have moved and that was the last straw for a nearly 20 year old cable. I'm just glad it happened near home and not in the middle of Pritchett Canyon or somewhere like that.

I have always run Champion too but these were not. I think I'll change them out and see if that helps.

Good point. They look pretty new. The previous owner put them on, not sure when, but I guess I'll replace them to rule that out.

I disconnected the battery to reset everything. The check engine light turned off. Took it to get inspected and it passed, then the light came back on and stayed on. So...as long as the light was off it passed.
