Did I get the wrong pinion?

I just got a 5.38 dana 60 gearset and the pinion shaft is machined different than the original. The one on the left is the new one, the one on the right is the original. Doesn't look like a crush sleeve will even fit on the new one. Any ideas?

Or will I just be using pre-load shims instead of a crush sleeve?

The new one is set up for shims. Much more better that way.
