Jeep 1990 jeep manual trans shifting problems

I sold my Jeep wrangler to a coworker two years ago, it has the 2.5 4 cylinder and 5 speed.

It has started to have shifting problems in 3rd gear (synchro) and asked me for help.


is it worth rebuilding or should i just find a used trans?
is it the same trans as the 6 cylinder.

Find a used one. Rebuild would be nice, but would probably cost as much as the vehicle is worth.

The 4-cylinder YJs used the AX5 for the 5-speed, while the 6-cylinder YJs used the AX15 (and maybe still the Peugeot BA-10/5?) Either way, they are not bolt-in swaps.
