Flatfenders at Grizzly Lake Colorado

Every year a group of flat fender owners/enthusiasts get together in Nathrop Colorado for an event called "The Fall Color Tour." If you have a flat fender, this event should be on your bucket list. This year's event had over 50 flatties running trails in the area for a week. A small group of the more adventurous (or maybe the ones with less sense) decide to take on the Grizzly Lake Trail. This trail has a very challenging "gatekeeper" obstacle and plenty of adventure and beautiful rewards along the way after the gatekeeper to make it worth the effort to get over.

Of the six jeeps to try the gatekeeper only two made the staight on line. The first one being this MB called Bam Bam. If you read JP or Crawl magazine, you will recognize Bam Bam from recent cover features.

Most of the rest of us took a little more round about line. My jeep was actually the first one up this line.

If you want to see what the rest of the trail looks like and how flat fenders handle it, I put together a long video (24 minutes) mostly taken by a GoPro clamped onto my folded down windshield. No music, just the musical sound of an L134 engine and the famous Willys fan noise.

I LOVE these videos, you have no idea! I had to find your channel on Youtube and watch more... loved watching the drivers struggle with manual steering! Keep them coming, I'm impressed with the places you guys are taking those old things. Makes me feel soft for wheeling a Jeep with factory lockers, A/C, power steering, heated seats, etc, etc, etc...

Thanks Greg. Getting a rig that is almost 70 years old and mostly stock to do some of this stuff that people say can't be done is part of the thrill for me. Add that to the amazing beauty of the places that "mall crawlers" will never see makes it so riding on "Grampa's Jeep" keeps a "perma-grin" on my face whenever that little flat head motor is hauling me along.

I love looking at your photos and videos. Makes me want to get to the places you highlight.
