1988 Toyota X-Cab

I've owned my truck for almost a year now, but I'm fairly new to the site. I thought I would post up and get some local opinions and support.
Owners Name & City- Jared, Logan Utah.

Make, Model & Year of Vehicle- 1988 Toyota Pickup xtra cab

Engine- 22re

Transmission- w56

T-Case- Gear driven top shift

Axles- Rear - Trucks original housing, Aussie locker, yukon 5.29's
Front - 1985 4runner axle with high steer and 5.29's

Suspension- 63" Chevy leafs out back, Toyota rears up front.

Wheels and Tires- 35" bfg mtrs on 15" aluminum wheels

Favorite Trails- Providence canyon, willard peak, little moab

I didn't know a lot about toyota's before owning this truck and when I first bought it I thought I had a decent platform. I guess it was a start but I want this rig to be very capable and not very problematic...
Here's a few pics of when I first bought it, and the very weak flex shot.

my truck had a d44/toy hybrid axle under it when I bought it. I needed some new steering and wanted to go with an all toyota front axle.

Got it all tore down.

Sandblasted it.

I primer'd and painted it (I shouldn't have because I'm going to armor it up)

I cleaned up and painted the knuckles.

I got a different steering box that isn't all worn out like my current one.

And a top shift case to run duals this spring :D

I still want to be able to drive the truck on the street here and there, so I'm going to try and keep it legal. But my to do list is as follows...
  • Finish front axle
  • High steer
  • Rear Aussie locker
  • Duals
  • Longs
  • Rock Sliders/Bumpers
  • Build my own bead locks
  • New rubber, maybe 38's?
I'm sure some little nick nacks and fixes will find their way into the list too.
But this is my rig, expect to see some pics, and good progress :greg:

Yep I think we're thinking of the same truck. I bought it from a guy who was apparently selling it for his son.. did you ever test drive it? oh man the steering was so janky. The high steer for this toyota axle will be worth every penny!

Yep, selling it for his son, I looked at it when he first listed it, I dont remember the asking price but it was to high, I remembered the hybred front axle and it did drive like crap,.

I sold that axle, but i'm probably going to get some arp knuckle studs for my 4 stud setup. I wish I was loaded with cash.
38's will probably be a little further down the road, and there will be plenty of wheelin to be done on my 35's.
I appreciate the input.

I battled the cold today and got a couple of things done. I installed my steering box, installed new bushings on my front leafs, and put my new shackles on.
The shackles are made of 3/8" steel and are 4.5" eye to eye.
They're one inch shorter than my old shackles to hopefully level the truck out.

It's slow... but it's progress.
