Action Alert
February 22, 2012
Dear Paul,

This is a critical call to action! Do not ignore this email please read and act.

Emails Supporting Aggressive Action Needed
We are often asking you to write or call various elected leaders to do something or stop something from happening. This time we need you to email the Governor and thank him for his support of the recent R.S. 2477 litigation that the state has engaged in (email address & specific instructions listed below). Recently the state has filed suit to clear title and establish the State's and County's rights of way on over 1,900 roads in Utah! Governor Herbert has been very supportive in this effort and he deserves credit for his courageous position and dedication to our issues.

We also want you to thank a few more folks; without them this effort and this suit would not have been possible. Rep. Mike Noel has been leading the fight against federal takings of our roads for decades. He has paved the way for other legislators to help in this fight and emboldened countless elected officials to follow his lead. State legislators Rep. Ken Sumsion, Rep. Chris Herrod, and Rep. Ken Ivory, all passed essential legislation last year that gave the Governor and Attorney General the funding they needed to prepare, file, and fight this significant law suit. Ironically these same 3 individuals are passing new and improved legislation this year (that will be the topic of another one of our alerts coming out later today).

Without these staunch advocates of state rights there would be no money to implement the state's litigation strategies. They deserve significant credit for their dedication to our cause and their service to all Utahns. Last, but not least, we must give credit and thanks to Chief Deputy Attorney General John Swallow. John and his team of attorneys have worked closely with legislators and the Governor's Office in crafting a solid legal strategy. John has the back bone, wit, and tenacity to carry out this aggressive legal action. His leadership on these issues is refreshing and much needed. John has expressed to us his commitment to our cause and he is taking action not just paying us lip service.

We know that SUWA and other rabid environmentalists have sent letters decrying the Governor and others for taking action on these roads. It is critical that we let these public servants know that they are doing a good job and this action and future actions are strongly desired by the public. The last thing we want is to have the Salt Lake Tribune do a records request and find that 300 greenies blasted elected officials for taking action and there were only 2 letters of support from our side.

So we ask you to please take a minute and even if it is only 3 or 4 sentences long, type out an email in support of the recent R.S. 2477 road lawsuit:
  1. Ask the governor to stay the course and continue taking aggressive action.
  2. Let him know you believe this a good use of your tax dollars and his staff's time.
  3. If you wish, relay personal thoughts and stories about how access to or lack of access to public land impacts you.
  4. Please be sure to mention how grateful you are for a team of legislators and AG's who care about such critical issues and do such a good job of serving the public.
  5. Don't forget to add that you are a supporter of Utah Shared Access Alliance the largest organization in Utah protecting access to Utah's public land.
The email address you should use to send your letters of support is: constituentservices@utah.gov it would also be great if you would Cc us on the email; use my email address at mike@usaall.org.

Sincerely,
