220v electrical question

I'm going to move a receptacle to a spot better suited for plugging in the welder. It's currently a 14-50r, but the welder wants a 6-50. Do I keep it 14-50 and get an adapter, or just put a 6-50 on it? If I put a 6-50, do I tie the ground and neutral together at the receptacle, or leave one of them off, or?

I don't know for sure.. but always lick it first to make sure the wires haven't sugarized.

Yup, just don’t use the neutral.
