'91 runner build

I picked up a 91 4runner a couple weeks ago to start all over again after selling my built 89 runner. i thought that since im starting a new build i would start a thread to see the progress from day one, and hopefully get some input from everyone..... so i bought this thing with a blown motor, dragged it home and shortly found the reason it was blown as i drained 13 quarts of oil out of it. since then i pulled the motor, been gathering parts and have been pretty much chopping it to pieces.

subscribed! Man, you work fast. What are the plans? Are you trying to keep it street legal, or will it be a trailered only rig?

How fun was getting those axles out of the bed of that pickup? I vowed never again to try to move a d60 without a forklift.

so far the plans are three link front, four link rear, 40-42" tires with as low of a stance as possible. swap in the 1uz, probably full hydro steering. it will only be trailered but im going to try and make it so if you squint your eyes a little bit i looks street legal just to try and keep from getting pulled over in moab driving in between trails a little ways. yeah if i didnt have an engine hoist those things would still be in the back of my truck ha.

heres some more chop and dovetail pics..i could have made it a lot narrower on the window frame, i think it would have looked better but i wanted there to be plenty of headroom for the passengers and some extra space behind the seats for some tool storage.

Excellent choice on axles and engine. What t-case do you plan on using? Will the rear window roll down? I can't wait to see how this turns out.

im probably going with a single toy case with 4.7s, i ran duals in my last 4runner but im afraid duals will be too long behind the lexus auto. the window wont be able to roll down because of the fender well chunks i took out of the tailgate, it would have rolled down a ways but i decided just rip the motor and everything out, make it a bit lighter.

looks good man, I want to do the same to the rear of my blazer but nervous about how long it would take me once I cut it off. Can't wait to see it done.

Got a little more work done, top is fully welded, window is installed. i still need to bondo it and finish the body work. i started fit the rear seat out of the lexus in, i had to cut it down quite a bit, especially the back rest but i think its going to work. i got my coilovers, 16" fox 2.0's, i have no idea what kind of spring rates to run, especially with the lighter back end, if anyone has any rough estimates let me know.
