Just finished the fascinating and riveting history book "A Higher Call: An incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War Torn skies of World War ll" by Adam Makos. A must read and untold history lesson from a different and utterly personal human point of view. Extreme sadness and yet uplifting story of the Knights of the Air on both sides in the terrible and destructive war. As my father survived being shot down in a B-24 over Germany and then survived a brutal year in the POW camps and forced winter marches back westward in front of the Soviet Army this true story of courage on all sides was very meaningful to me. A book of fear, terror and yet lifelong comradery. All sides were mostly just ordinary human beings trying to survive the actions, places and events not a one of them would ever have personally chosen. One served one's country wherever one was born.
