"A Short History of England: The glorious story of a rowdy Nation" by Simon Jenkins is an absolutely mesmerizing history of part of ancient Briton transfiguring into England from the Roman occupation to the present time. This is not a history of Great Britain/UK but only of the rather tiny land of England alone minus Scotland, Wales, and Ireland though all three figure prominently in the discourse. I have never read such a vivid, fascinating history as Jenkins has written. Simply the most fascinating history book I have ever read. The peoples, the places, the events are brought to life incredibly. This author CAN write. This author Can depict. This author has woven 2000 years into one continuous interlocking grand book of fascinating personages and historical events that seem so alive. A book to be read slowly and savored.
