Haven’t made anything fun for a while and this has been rattling around in my head. I wanted something mainly to carry my kayak or two. And why buy something you can build for twice as much money.

I like that! I'm going to be building a flat rack sometime soon... I like the rail mounts you have on there.

Been thinking pretty hard about using unistrut for my cargo rails too. I'd do it, if I could figure a way to not make it look like unistrut. Yours looks pretty good.

You can buy unistrut in various thicknesses and with or without the holes. Without the holes would make it look just like a U channel

I wanted the holes to use as tie down points. If you used the hole free stuff it would have a nice clean look from the top. I use the lower mounts from my INNO bike trays. They are curved to match my cross bars and made of metal. I drilled out the threads so I had to order some new ones from Rack n Road on state street. They are $6 each.
