Dual Battery System Questions

I am installing a dual battery system in my FZJ80. Do both batteries need to be identical, or do they just have to be 12V? I am an electrical idiot, and I am not afraid to admit it.

Attached are pics of the battery I have now, and want to pick up my 2nd battery tomorrow.

They are going to be isolated from each other so they don't need to be identical. The 100 guys typically do like a group 27 up front in the stock location and the second they use a group 34 which is physically smaller. Also, a lot of them use a marine deep cycle as their secondary or accessory battery.

Tell us how you are going to install them and with what components and we should be able to give you the assurance you need to carry on.

I’m using the National Luna kit for duals, putting the 2nd in the engine bay where I will relocate my washer bottle and compressor. I plan to run my compressor, fridge, HAM, and whatever else I add that hasn’t already been wired to my main battery.
