Trip Report Farmington Canyon Saturday 5/8

First trip up Farmington Canyon ever. Not super familiar with the area but roads were dry all the way up to the second gate (still closed) and then there were random drifts and shortly after it seemed pretty well covered. Would love to find a couple rigs to go back up with and see how far we can make it. New to the area and could really use some wheeling buddies so reach out if you’re interested please.

So, if the road was dry up to a closed gate, where was the pic taken?

So the lower green gate right as you leave the pavement was open. After going through that gate you’re on a washboard gravel road for a couple miles That comes up to a little stream area and a gate going eastish, that gate was still closed to I took a right which brought me around a couple corners (up towards bountiful peak i believe). At this point I was bashing through a couple snow drifts and the road soon became covered at which point I stopped and took the pictures before turning around. Again, first time up so not terribly positive as to where I made it.

Wow, seems early for the gates to be open to the spot where the road splits to Francis Peak and Bountiful Peak. If you got to where it sounds like you got, there is usually a gate on the south road as well, but its been a few years since I have been up there.

I was still snowbiking up there the end of April on the Bountiful side

Update 5/25

Went up again earlier in the week and gotta say it’s crazy how fast the snow is melting. They opened the skyline drive gate. Did not get a chance to go up that way but Arthur’s fork, Chicken creek and gold hill are all good to go. Chicken creek Is decently clear all the way up to where gold hill branches off from it then gets snowy again. Made it up past the bountiful picnic area a couple miles then got to a point where there is still a decent 2’ of snow so didn’t quite make it to the lake.
