Gear Ration Opinions

Hey all, Just curious to see if I can get everyone's opinion on the optimal gear ratio for my CJ. Dana 44's front and rear currently with 3.55's (embarassed to type that) I run a 36" TSL SX and hope to upgrade to a 38.5 and a rear Dana 60 down the road. I am torn between 4.56, 4.89's, and 5.13's. I am leaning towards 4.89s but the 5.13's are tempting. I am only worried about pinion gear size with the 5.13s. what do you guys think?? any personal experiences??

5.13's all the way!

The pinion does get a little small in that range, but I've been running them for over a year now with no breaks or worries.

BTW - I'm running Yukon gears from Randy's R&P.

Cool, I would love to have the 5.13s with my NP435s first gear. CRAWL RATIO.

I just noticed that I put Ration instead of Ratio on my post....a little bit for everyone I guess.

Is it your daily driver?

Yeah it is my daily driver, and it has to make occasional trips to Mesa Arizona(like two round trips a year).

If you're gonna go to 38s you'll want the 5.13s.

I would say go with 488's, being that it's still a street cruiser. If you go too low you may be miserable on the freeway.

Screw the freeway. You don't wanna drive there anyway.

4.88's would be a better all around ratio with 38's...5.13 would be much nicer on trail but doin' 55 mph down the freeway would just kill me.
