Being the rover nut I am. I would love this Defender 110. I have a D-90 and love it, but it is not the ideal rig for expedition. The Defender 110 would be a better expedition rig. I can dream can't I.

How do you find the air system works for you?? I am looking for a decent priced compressor to hook up to my air tank so I can air up tires and run the occasional air tools and such. Any info you can provide on this subject??
Thanks,
- Matt
Here's my truck as of now. 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80

I haven't gone on any long-range expeditions yet, but I hope to in the future. I still have to do a few things- install a power inverter, finish the rear box thing...

It's equipped with:

  • cobbled-together OME/Ironman lift totaling 3-3.5"
  • BFG AT's 33x12.50R15 (not pictured)
  • Rear Aussie locker
  • self-maintaining OBA system
  • Cobra WXST-II CB in-dash
  • Garmin nuvi 205 (road), Garmin GPS V (topo)
  • a SWEET sound system
  • Lots of lights...
    • 4 100W KC's on the roofrack
    • 2 130W Hellas on the bumper
    • 2 foglights w/dichloric(sp?) yellow 55W bulbs (actually effective)
    • 2 aux backup lights, one 100W and the other 35W
    • 2 rear roof lights, 100W each
    • HIR 55W low beams, regular 65W high beams
    • for a grand total of 1,345 watts of light
  • Dual batteries to power it all

I'm using twin MF-1050 compressors, you know the ones Checker had a major sale on a couple years ago.

I can't remember how much air they put out, though. Enough to fill a 5-gallon air tank in two minutes.

On rubbing issues:
In a nutshell, yes I have had them.

On the Kokopelli trip I took, it was post lift, pre trim. The tires rubbed pretty severely in the rear, and some in the front. Part of my issues pertain to my dakar rear leaf packs, they shifted the axle a bit too far forward (you can kinda look at the first pic and see this...)

With that said, on my setup I had to do some trimming on the bottom front corners of the rear fenderwells. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for you cannot tell that I cut anything, but ended up trimming out about 2 inches from the corner and feathering the cut back into the stock lines midway up the fenderwell. Didn't need to do anything to the back portion of the rear fenderwells. Replaced all bolts with countersunk screws and fender washers.

For the front, all I did was trim out some of the thin black plastic liner. I still need to bend over the pinch weld, but haven't flexed the front enough to have it touch the pinch weld since Kokopelli.

Let me know if you have any questions and I can try to give you some more detail.

Don't know if you have seen Scott Brady's writeup on this, but it is pretty much the recepie I followed:

Here's mine. Nothing too exciting all. Typical Toyota.

Just finished its first trip. I bought it with a few things already done, so I don't know the condition of some things. Worst four hours there and another worst four hours back. Probably lost a few years due to stress. Only managed to cover everything from the t-case back with oil from a leaky seal.
