Removing a sun rotted tire from a rim

A buddy of mine gave me some 20" paddles (for my jeep) that are mounted to some 18" steel rims. I am going to cut the centers out and replace them with a 5 5/2 bolt pattern. The tires have been run flat, and are kinda sun-rotted. I am going to try and run them with tubes, and see if they will last a little while.
Question - What would give me the best odds to "gently" break the bead without ruining the tire. Should I pay a tire shop, or get some tire irons and do it myself? Tips/Tricks?

Anyone know a good tire shop you would trust?

Thanks
Kirk

if they're sun rotted, is it worth it to mess with them.. I mean, if they're not going to hold up to removal, how well are they going to last under a Jeep?

regardless (I'd run em too LOL), you can try the good old jack method.... stick a HiLift under the bumper and use the base to slowly work it off the bead all the way around.

Go gently into that good night!
