Saginaw steering box disassembly questions

I need to change the input seals on this box. Can I just pull off that round spanner "nut" and it's lock ring to change out those seals, or will that let the magic smoke out?

I'm not sure about the input. I did my sector shaft seals (there are two) this year and was able to pull them without releasing smoke. Nut, snap ring, and washer, if I remember correctly.

That doesn't really answer your question but, I would guess they're similar. Seemed like all the magic happens deeper in the steering box.

If I remember right when I did mine (I might be wrong) but to change the input seal you don’t need to loosen the spanner nut, I think all you have to remove is the internal C-clip. Again, I could be wrong, I just don’t remember removing that washer with a spanning wrench.

Check the OD of your new seal to see if it’s way bigger than that C-clip hole or not and that will confirm or deny my theory.
I think that might be possible too, but getting that seal out might be an ordeal without pulling the spanner nut off of the input.

Ordered another seal kit, because why would the new parts store in town have that in stock. Or the other parts store across town. I wanted to steer this bitch tonight. 😡
