Tacoma Fiberglass Bed Flaking

My Son has my old 2006 Tacoma and the fiberglass bed is flaking away to where if you sit in it or touch it you can get fiberglass slivers. We have talked about a few options to fix this, but not sure what are best solution is.

Has anyone experienced this problem and fix it?

Sounds like it needs to be sanded down, a new application of gel coat and paint.

That could be really cool...plus it makes for much easier loading/hauling of Power Wheels.

Is this an aftermarket sides or something? I thought Tacoma's had metal sides with some plastic composite for the bed itself.

I think its just the composite inner bed structure. I think Toyota did it for weight savings....

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not sure exactly what the bed is made out of other than the glass that gets in your hands when dealing with it. It is a composite of some sort.

I think I would pressure wash really well, perhaps knock it down with some scotch brite to remove any loose stuff and then bed liner. Even the DIY stuff should protect that glass/resin/plastic.

Normally I'm not into flatbeds, but this- I like this. I wish I was still building my 72 F100 now.

My brother just bought a truck with this issue. He used a heat gun and was able to solve the issue.
I’m sure google will have better info about it.
