Worked on Pickles the little XJ tonight. I finally installed the core4x4 tracbar I’ve had since a few days after I got the Jeep. It’s stout and tightened up the steering nicely. I did however have to cut off about 1/2” of the threaded portion to be able to get it adjusted properly. So that was lame but meh not a big deal for me.

The old one is not factory (probably rough country) as it has a removable TRE and what looks like a little beefier clevite bushing. Buuuuut the TRE is about as limp as it gets so I’m still happy to get it off there.

Look closely and you can see extended bumpstops in the coils. They’re some Amazon cheapies so we’ll see how they hold up. Also, extended ss brake lines. Neat and stuff. On a positive note I taught my boys how to bleed brakes.

I changed an inner hub seal on the buggy, which was a seriously filthy job. Gonna try one of the new style seals with separate rotating parts. IMG_8486.jpegIMG_8487.jpeg

Then I loaded that junk on the Jeep Dolly and cruised down to Kevin Boren’s house, where I’m now hiding out in his basement. 😀

Finally done.
The front mounting brackets were pretty easy, with just some mild modification of the brackets. The rear was being much more difficult.
I ended up taking the lower control arms off the rear so that I could make my brackets while standing up and from any angle I wanted. Turned out to be pretty easy that way.

No pics but I finally cut the rusted Flowmasters off the Dually and weld on a new muffler and tailpipe. Also did the oil change and checked the other fluids and topped off the truck box for spare stuff etc,,,

Did a huge Magnaflow muffler that has dual 3" inlets and a single 4" outlet. Then chopped off the dual tailpipes that were garbage and used a cheap pre-bent 4" tailpipe for a duramax. It all went together fairly easy for once and has a much more mellow tone.

The short flowmasters on a towrig have bugged me the whole time I owned it but they were just quiet enough, probably just because theres 40' of pipe and it was ran clear to the rear bumper, I didnt chop them off but once they rusted out I had no problem tossing them in favor of something better sounding...

Tomorrow Im gonna try to get the new tires mounted on my flatbed trailer and then figure out why the running lights stopped working on my enclosed on the way home from Tucson, That road through Wikuip shook it pretty good so its either a bad ground or short somewhere..

Have another trip the 1st week of November to Fomoso and I cant take the motorhome as Im too long and Im told California has been hassling and checking folks. Gonna take the dually and just get hotel rooms. If it was just a ticket Id chance it but they have been making people unhook and find a shorter towrig to move the trailers etc... Seems like a damn joke.. I remember guys getting hassled out near Glamis years ago but some of them probably deserved it, some of those guys rigs were Huge, Weekend warrior was building some crazy stuff back then...

My 40' coach pulling a 30' enclosed drives fine and I usually stick to the interstates and truck stops for the most part. I've never once been checked but CA is another animal..LOL

Had a friend bring me a bike that had the head break off the shifter shaft retainer bolt (it broke below flush).

He tried to drill it out and had broken multiple bolt extractors.

I built up weld through a nut and turned it off slowly. It took about 5 or 6 bolts but we got it out so he didn't have to split the cases to replace the shift selector shaft.

I've used this technique on head studs and exhaust studs before as well with success.

The hood has officially been vented. I was skeptical about how much air flow and heat dissipation would actually take place.IMG_6179.jpeg
I’ve gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Everybody knows the engine bays in these things get hotter than a two-peckered billy goat and the vents help a ton from my initial testing. There’s some good air flow even sitting with just the belt-driven fan but when the electric fan kicks on it really moves. I can’t even hold my hand on the vents, it’s too much ouchy.

As far as the looks go, meh it’s not the best but 1)they were like $80 and 2)it’s just an XJ

The inconvenient part is now I pretty much feel obligated to do the vents on the other Jeep too. I don’t want them getting jealous of each other and acting up
