Last night I thought I was going to have to clear snow when I arrived home from work but seeing as how that wasn’t the case I opted to rack the Jeep and do a LOF service as well as finish up the press work table.

Oh, and for the record I absolutely HATE the looks of mud guards on my Jeep but I'm trying to be somewhat legal.

I tried out my new connector pliers and they sure work slick.

These 37’s sure seem bigger when they’re off the Jeep.

They are wearing excellent so far. New they had 18/32” and they are still at nearly 14/32” with just over 15.5k miles on it in exactly a year now.

The LS engine is actually easier to change the oil than the OEM 3.8 liter Chrysler engine. The oil drains without running all over my suspension links and the filter drops straight down at the rear of the engine vs. the front near the harmonic balancer which would have oil running down my steering drag link and tire rod.

While the oil was draining I welded the gussets on each channel for my press work table.

Also, while I had the welder out I went ahead and repaired my welder’s third hand again and hopefully for the last time. I used a Cummins N14 wrist pin as the weight when I built this one and butted the 5/16” cold rolled stock up against the end and TIG welded it but several times now it has broken off right at the HAZ. This time I extended the round stock under the wrist pin which should hold much better and not be so delicate.

I then added some silicone bronze to the tip similar to the feet which promotes good current flow when using as a ground.

I painted the work table so it could be drying while I finished up the service on the Jeep.

Lastly, after test driving the Jeep and parking it in the garage I swept up and took one last picture before locking up for the night.

You can't give us that little tid bit of info and leave us hangin! What are the details on this? Can't say I've ever heard of an explorer caliper upgrade/

Buddy of mine runs an XJ in the BITD Jeepspeed class. He's been going through a set of front pads every race because of flex in the wimpy single piston calipers. We decided to go with 2 piston explorer calipers but stuck with the stock rotors so he could keep his 15" wheels. I think most xj brake upgrades require larger wheels.

I trimmed excess bracketry from the knuckle and used 2 of the hub mounting bolts to secure the bracket. The bosses on the knuckle were milled down to allow us to use the stock length hub bolts.

I'm still not totally happy with the setup. I really wish I would have bought the other style Speedbumps for the rear. I'll likely change them out one day, the same day that I cut off the lower coil mounts and weld new ones back in at the correct position so my pinion angle is correct.

My son and I made a little progress on the front bumper of his WJ over the last two nights.

After scratching our heads a bit we devised a pretty slick mount that will be both functional and strong. Being a unibody we need to ensure the fasteners won’t pull through the sheet metal as well as spread the load out all while keeping it as tight up to the core support and grille as possible yet not obstruct airflow through the radiator.

After some measurements we started cutting some 1/4” plate.

Once one side is mocked up I disassembled and used transfer punches to duplicate.

All four pieces cut, trimmed and test fit before prepping to weld the nuts in place.

I generally use muriatic acid to remove the zinc coating on the nuts prior to welding but i opted to just knock the coating off the flats with the belt sander tonight which is why the soot.

Here is where it could be a bit “Fleet” and not rigid enough when using the winch in a recovery situation so I opted to add some strength by creating a rib or backbone to the mounts.

so did my neighbors that were moving in while we were knocking down the wall!! Guess they picked the wrong neighborhood!

Rest assured, we are not actually parking on the grass.

Just driving on it:rofl:

The trailers can be backed all the way around the back of the house to their proper location. This just allows me to move them each one at a time in any order. Previously, I would be 3 or 4 trailers deep sometimes and have to move the first 3 to get to the 4th.

Today I finished up several projects to prepare for a trip to Texas in a couple weeks.

Wired up a replacement for my 3rd brake light that fills two holes left in the tailgate after removing the spare tire.

Finished building a platform to go on top of my spare tire.

And removed the back seat and built a platform for two loving adults to sleep on. This is actually wider than the mattress in my work truck by several inches.
