Speaking of pools, I forgot to get pics of yesterday/today's project.
Last year we got a cheapo 15' inflatable pool, but with the backyard not level it wanted to slump down the slope. I braced that end up with a row of sandbags, which helped, but it still wasn't great. So, yesterday I got the kids to help a bit and once it started cooling off we leveled the pool area. Since we were there already, I went ahead and dug the center down about a foot, so now the pool should be nice and comfortable to use for me too.
Working shirtless is different for me now, I'm just glad there's a solid fence all the way around the backyard. I'd freak the neighbors out with my lopsidedness.

It needs a new battery, and we still have to finish the front axle, but it's back under its own power.

I've been messing around with my rear suspension for a while now trying to get it a little lower after moving the spare into the bed and building a much lighter rear bumper. I've changed rear springs twice now and I've cut a little off the most recent pair I swapped in. It still wasn't enough to get rid of the rake, so I swapped in some XJ springs I had laying around and it seems about perfect!
One reason I needed to lower it is because I swapped in some rear MCE fender flares that accentuated the rake I had dramatically.
After that I swapped in a new muffler, which was also necessary because of the rear bumper build eating up a lot of room under the rear. It's about as tucked up in there as possible now.

Last week I whipped up this mailbox post to replace the aging brick setup that was suffering from structural issues and finally took a tumble. (I slid into it with my Jeep on a snowy winter day about 10 years ago and cracked the base)
4 x 4 x .125 wall tube and some spare plate, plus the addition of a Jeep 4.0L timing gear set for a personalized touch. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Simple, unique and functional, and I moved it about 5 ft away from the driveway so some dufas won't slid into it.

Recent project I picked up, I've always wanted to build a poor man's bass boat. Up to this point I've always just fished from shore or in a float tube, I've wanted a boat for a while but don't want the expense/effort that comes with a nice boat. So I came across this 1996 14ft Lund with a 25hp Johnson on KSL, it was in good shape, a good brand, simple, and a reasonable price. I also found a steal of a deal on a 70lb thrust, 24V Minn Kota trolling motor on KSL, along with batteries and an onboard charger. Issue is that the motor was intended for a pontoon boat so it's way too tall for this boat.

Tried to "seal" the plywood with an oil based outdoor urethane on the surface, and then sealed the edges with a below waterline adhesive. By no means is this waterproof, but good enough I hope for the amount of water it should see.
Marine carpet and carpet adhesive. First time I've ever carpeted something and I really should have done more research before starting, the weird corners got me...
Aluminum angle to mount platform to boat.
Mounted w/ all aluminum hardware to avoid corrosion. You can see the motor shaft is way to long.
Pipe cutter and some wire shortening.
Need to figure out battery mounting/electronics next. Overall I want to build a couple casting decks, replace the carpet and make it a nice cheap boat, and hopefully catch a fish or two.

So I want to take my van on a trip this weekend but the nights will be hot. I threw this together real fast tonight (like 15 minutes fast) to hopefully make it easier to sleep with cold air blowing on my face. The plan is to set my fridge to freezer mode and freeze a case of water bottles. Drop 4-5 bottles in the water to keep it cold and rotate them as they thaw. I don’t know how it will work but testing it right now it’s blowing out much colder air than room temp.
I used a heater core from an f150 that was a good size and only $29. Walmart cooler and fan and a cheap evap cooler pump.
I think I’ll cut a piece of Reflectix to cover the water keeping the warm air from blowing directly on it. The heater core is ice cold and should cool the air passing through just fine. Hopefully it will help it be more efficient.

Tearing out the old and getting it ready for plants and rocks, working around the birch roots, electrical and sprinklers was a blast.
