So my best friend's dad turned 70 last month. And while he was a good rider earlier in life; he hasn't ridden for 15 years really.

So naturally we bought him a bike for his birthday!
We got him a 2006 Yamaha XT225.

First things first: I disabled.the clutch interlock so he could start the bike in gear instead of having to bump it into neutral anytime he stalled it.

The bike has three "safety features:" kickstand switch: if the kickstand is down the bike will not run unless it's in neutral. Neutral switch. Bike will start in neutral with the kickstand down or kickstand up and clutch is in in gear.
Clutch switch. This had broken so I wired it straight through.

Now it will start anytime: unless the kickstand is down and the bike is not in neutral.

I did new fork seals and bumped the oil from 10w to 20w to increase the damping and take away the springy feeling on the front end.
Then did new wheel bearings and seals and rebuilt the speedo while it was apart.

Put some Tusk hand guards and a new brake lever.

The the stock pegs and brake pedal tip are tiny so I modified them by welding them together with a set from a YZ125.

Tuned the carb and fixed the bent rear blinkers.

Anyways he really loved it and I gave him a full set of old moto safety gear, boots and helmet. He had a great time riding with us in some early muddy snowy conditions.
